I have been told that if you have your car on HP you cannot teach anyone to drive on it is this true? I don't intend to teach anyone nor is my car on HP, its just something I was told.

I don't know of any legal reasons why not but if it is part of the actual hp contract as a specific clause then fair enough. I would think that the company not unreasonably would be concerned about undue wear and tear on the car and hence the restrictions. Possibly.

Are you sure this isn't relating to a personal contract hire agreement?

I've never heard of such a thing but then HP, as it was, no longer exists. The guy must be talking about contract hire.

Where you pay a huge amount of money to have the newest shiny car on the drive, but after three years you give it back and own nothing.
Rental basically.

Basically, contract hire is just that, you hire the car under a lease arrangement and other things like servicing, tax, insurance are thrown in.
As some agreements include insurance then there may be limits on how the vehicle is used.

or you pay about 10% more than the normal total cost of ownership without having to take out loans. It can work out very nicely for businesses.
There is a kind of loan that all my friends are taking out on new cars that seems almost too cheap to be true. Not as cheap as paying cash but possibly the cheapest loan type deal I've heard of.

Businesses like them as their is no capital outlay, no unexpected costs (breakdowns etc are covered) and they can reclaim the VAT. There is no hassle of having to sell the old car and haggle over the price of the new one, you don't have to worry as much about what your employee is doing with it, if it needs tyres etc the employee just takes it you don't have to ring around for prices etc so generally less paperwork and responsibility. The costs can be very good if your happy to have what they're giving the good deals on as they usually have something that they've picked a load up at a good price.
The biggest down sides are you never own anything, if business goes quiet you still have to pay out a couple of hundred quid a month per vehicle, a lot of businesses that went under did so not because they weren't viable businesses but because they had too much going out. If you own your own vehicles you can say ok we'll keep them 5 years instead of 3 or whatever to tide you over. They also put restrictions on like 10,000 miles a year etc
It's the same with machinery, computers, telephones etc etc.

Suzuki offer HP as well as Contract Hire, I'm sure that other companies do as well.

Ford options..
pay a monthly fee, 3 years, they cover servicing and depending on the fee, insurance..
hand it back after 3 years, get new car..
