Hi guys does anyone in the UK build vehicles like this ?
I have a hilux which is running 46" tyres and four linked, it is no longer able to go on the road so I was thinking about breaking it and turning it into one of these American off road beasts

That 'American off road beast'
Isn't that badgers show truck? Nothing off road about it at all! Oh it's also road legal and down your way in the UK.

hmmmmm dont think I put in the post that my truck was an off roader DX ?
The man at Vosa states that modifications to the chassis from "standard Toyota" is a non starter, that and the other mods thats been done
If I want to take it to an appointed Vosa station they will quite happily take it appart and hand it back to me in a big box and take my registration away for the vehicle
There are a number of vehicles running around with modifications that would not pass a Vosa inspection But due to the lack of detail in a MOT test they are allowed to carry on driving on the public highway...............Try and do summat honest and above board and they shoot ya down, its a mockery really
So I was just looking into what I could do with my truck if I broke it down to use elsewhere on another project...........

a real shame you can't carry on using it is it not possible to make that whole 4 link subframe bolt onto the original chassis, therefore you aren't modifying the chassis at all?
I would suggest that if you are on standard axles, they will struggle to turn those tyres reliably (ie without breaking) in situations a buggy like that would be able to get into off road

The way the fourlink is set up.....nothing would line up with original chassis mounts.
If I do end up breaking the truck I would probably only keep the chevy lump, th400 box, divorced transfer case and the tyres
Its probably put together better than most 4x4 (modded) trucks on the road today................ its just a matter of time before they get their collar felt

Hey Badger, sorry, misread your post. Thought you were wanting to change it into the hightrucks one !
Real shame you're going to have to break it. I take it there's not the money in the monster truck scene to keep running it?

Hey guys I went down to have a look around the truck today,
Well....... I dont think I can break it after wandering around it for an hour or so today, its certainly seen better days But I dont think its time for the SPAM lady to sing either
So a plan of action has been decided upon (there are two plans but the second one is under wraps for now)
The truck is going to have a few quid spent on it, I am going to transport it to shows next year
The truck is not going down without making some noise first

Really love the Hilux. Glad you are keeping it alive. It would be a shame to beak it up. If worst comes to worse try sell it as it is?
