Having had my Surf stolen early this year & being very lucky to get it back in perfect condition I have thought about adding more protection than the usual alarm. I'm thinking of fitting a tracker (my company van has one which was stolen at the same time and found within two hours) but it seems to be a bit of a minefield, do I buy real time/monitored/sms/gprs or what, any ideas anyone?

A couple years back one of the landy mags (LRM I think) covered fitting of a tracker from carrotech http://www.visionairegps.co.uk seamed like a pretty good system with option of added extras. Along with the ability to track the vehicle yourself.

Personally the only one I rate is the system from Tracker Network. Only system recommended by and used and monitored by all the UK's Police forces http://www.tracker.co.uk/

I've read that the police 'lose' the signal on this very quickly (i.e. "the signal is dead the thieves have found the tracker and immobilised it")
I'd go with Phantom - they monitor their own system and give constant updates to the police - Phantom has a very high, if not 100%, recovery rate - often within hours of the theft

Possibility that NI's police force is still criminal concious and doesn't go for the soft option?

We have Livetrack fitted to our company vehicles.
Live tracking updated every 30 seconds, can produce driver behaviour reports and snail trails on a map for individual journies or entire days.
What attracted us to that system is that you only pay for installation and then a 1 month rolling contract of £30.
Tracker is the size of a mobile phone battery and can be installed anywhere on the vehicle.
