Does anyone own one? Just wondering what they are like to live with? It might be the right truck for me..... .?

They're OK. I don't have one but a good mate does and we go out in the dunes a lot.

The early JK's are a bit nasty as the interior is uncomfortable and a bit ****. The engine is also a bit lacking. The newer revised ones are much better. They have sorted out the majority of the interior issues and replaced the engine which is far superior.

Other than that, they are what they are. They're no old school 'real' Jeep like the TJ but they are much better as a daily driver, however, saying that they're not as good as there Jap competition.

As for off road capabilities, they're good in the dunes. Not amazing but better than there Jap competition. I have only played with autos so cannot comment on the manuals.

They're better than 4.0L Prados, 3.8L Pajeros, 4.0L Xterras..... I.E direct competition.

TJ's are better. Other than that you're looking at the old (but more expensive) favorites.

Here is my dune rating system based on what are popular over here.

Excellent

Some Patrols (some are also v poor), Landcruiser, TJ (Manual), Old FJ

Good

JK, New FJ, Xterra, Prado, TJ (Auto), Discos

Average

Fortuner, Pajero

Poor

Tahoe, Xtrail

That's all I can really think of (that I have experience of). These are all petrol and the bigger engine models as economy is not a concern and diesels are very uncommon.

Yes they do have some old Cherrys here. They seem to be quite popular with the locals who live out in the sticks. I would assume that the majority of them will be the 4.0 auto variant. I've never had a go in one on the sand but I did try and keep up with a local in one once going through the dunes at night. When he stopped his whole family including wife and 3 kids got out. Utter mental! I'm pretty sure his was blown tho as it destroyed me.

So all in all, from the limited bit I know I think they are pretty good in the sand.
