I visited Putwell Hill (between Monsal Head and Brushfield) today with Derbyshire police. The farmer has complained of 4x4s and trail bikes going off-piste on his land, so we went to have a look.
The track itself is steep and rocky, and it seems that some green laners have taken to driving off the road up the edges of the field instead.
This in itself is disappointing (although perhaps easier for some vehicles to get up the hill) but a nearby series of humps and hollows have been turned into an 'off-road' adventure playground by numpties who have taken to playing there and leaving deep tyre tracks and gouges where their tow hitch drop plates catch the turf.
To make matters worse, the humps and hollows are the remains of a unique old historic lead mine, and are legally protected. This makes what would otherwise be just senseless off-piste driving into a criminal offence.
I know I'm largely preaching to the converted by posting this on here, but please pass on this message to others and on other web sites - this type of off-piste activity is just not on. The PDNPA are already threatening to impose a part-time TRO on this lane, and we don't need to give them a further excuse to blame green laners for causing damage to protected sites.

Which just adds to pressure to close routes to UK Greenlaners.
