Would it be possible to transplant a series shell onto a discovery chassis? Seen the tdi engine conversions done but surely it would be a better allround driver performance & handling wise? Insurance wise I cant afford to insure a disco but a series, even modified, is peanuts in comparison. Any thoughts? Thsnks

But then it would be a modified Disco with Series panels not a modified Series.

Even more to insure.

Just either get a Disco or Series, don't try get around paying for proper insurance.

If you can not afford to insure it, its not the car for you.

15 years ago there were loads of hybrids made as 90's were dear and rangerover chassis's were available to mod i had a series one trialer built that way and there are loads about now

But the regs are difficult now in comparison to what they were and i would have thought you would be better off with an early 90

I have just sold my Hreg 200tdi 90 and it was only £175 to insure fully comp

So i cant see there is any benefit these days from going down the hard route

Unless you want the challenge and your not looking for a standard motor once your done

Also bear in mind that what you build will never be worth the same as a standard 90 or series motor will be

And that an unmolested series motor be it 1 2 or 3 will only go up in value now there getting older

Daft question but if you are over 25 years old you can go for 'kit car' or similar insurance if you've done some kind of body swap/chassis swap thing. Can be much cheaper.

On the basis that all insurance is predicated on full disclosure, my view is that anything you can do to legitimately reduce your insurance can only be a good thing.

Disco looking at £1500, early defender £600, series 3 £160.....it baffles me car insurance, I'm sure these companies just do as they please as theres no consistency. I'm 33, parent, homeowner, decent area. Had a bump a few years ago but had 3 yrs no claims. Flux & Sureterm were the only companies that were reasonable over the last few years, recently a lad stalled at a toll booth & I touched his bumper, cracked his number plate but he's claiming for damage that wasn't done. The garage he used just went ahead & repaired it so my insurance is disputing it but my no claims are down the pan & I'm having to look at cheaper to insure vehicles as it seems I'll be back to square 1
