After a little less than year of being jeep less I have now bought another
A 1948 CJ2A
It's in need of some restoration, but once I put it back together it will be used not parked and polished
Pictures to follow...
Should I jam in a flat head V8 or keep it standard......

Keep it standard, plenty good enough without the V8
And I agree, they should be used as they were designed to be used

I should really start a build treat for this little truck
So far
Converted a mahindra CJ3B tub to CJ2A spec, used the 2A bulkhead trans tunnel, scuttle etc (the whole mindi was cheap and the tub is almost identical apart from the bulkhead etc and it was completely rot free!)
Plan is to use the Mahindra axles to as they are both dana44 (or at least copies of)
And I've bought a flat head V8 ........ Going to be a interesting job fitting that

That is my idea of a nice rat rod, not to big a roof crop and still running a front beam, it just needs a flat head...
The jeep might end up being a rat too- well everything under the skin will be perfect and painted. It will be nice and usable too

I am with you there I hate to have rust in the important parts but a bit of surface rust on the body and a bit of undercoat here and there adds character I think I like my cars to look like there are used not shiny toys just for show.
I was looking for some vids of old jeeps with flat head v8 but could not find any on youtube so I put the ford on pity its not a flat head.

Weasel
that video was my imspiration for going down the V8 route, i watched it and found the flat head the same night!
I havent progressed that much as work keeps taking all my time up!
Its now sat on YJ springs and the motor is in chassis on temperory mounts, the bulkhead is tweeked and all i have to do is,
Make a new steering set up
Make the brake peddle miss the LH cylinder head.........
Find room for the rad, its a big lump in a small hole!
make exhausts
rebuild the gearbox
A million other things and ive just bought another house to rent out which needs some time and effort spent on it!!!
