Some garage changed an alloy wheel on my daughters car and put the wheel nuts on so tight on the steel spare that they sheared each nut where the tapered seat joins the 'conventional' nut section. So, when you take the nuts off, the tapered part remains on the stud and holds the wheel on so you can't take it off.
Q. Anyone come across this before and where can i get some replacement studs from Question

Cheers Cool

Hi Hattie,

I have moved this to the wheels and tyres section (whilst leaving a shadow link) in the original section. That way it gives more chance of you getting help.
It may help if people know where you are as well.

Seeing as this is vehicle specific - wouldn't it be better where all the fronty owners go first i.e. NOT HERE Rolling Eyes

Fronty wheel studs are just that - on the hub - are they not?

That being so, loosen the nuts and then hit the end of the nuts with a hammer so the stud moves backwards - this should release the coned seat, which incidentally shouldn't have been used with a steel wheel - though I can think of quite a few national tyre fitters that would do that Rolling Eyes

Once you have the cones off you can remove the burr that has been formed by using them with a steel wheel (Alloy wheels are not held just by the tip of the cone as steel wheels would be)

Thanks,
Two things;
1) i did post it on the vehicle specific forum as that is what it is, but diff whatever moved it.
2) great advice; i take it, as i haven't looked, that the cone element isn't threaded but wedges into the stud thread when forced through a steel wheel's seating? Question

No the cone does the same job as a washer, if you were to look at one in relationship with the Alloy wheel you would see that the cone does not touch the outer of the wheel fixing hole nor does the inner part of it (by the stud) seat on the wheel - sorry can't find any drawings to explain it better...
