Just out of interest at one time they used to put double roofs on older landrovers I assume this was to work as a sunshade with cool air going underneath.

if I am correct in thinking this did it work and if it did why did they stop doing it on the later ones.

Certainly seemed to work, but don't know why they stopped.

It was a safari roof iirc,

But when on safari now-days people have roof racks full of stuff which does the same job

Hi,

One of the Ghurus in rhe Series 2 Club has recenrly expressed surprise at my intention to not use my double skin roof, saying that they are much more comfortable on a hot day.

My project, "The Aunt" (originally owned by "Auntie Beeb" -ie - BBC) was fitted with the second skin, in 1959, but didn't have the two little roof windows. Nor did it have a roof lining. But it does have a large vent hole in the main roof panel, under the second skin, slightly behind and above the driver's left ear. I didn't notice such a hole on my LWB Safari of about the same era.(1959/1960)

I will be fitting a pop-top camper roof, so the "tropical" roof panel will need to find a new home.

To my eyes, modern LWB estates look naked.

so I was correct in my thinking with newer Land Rovers I would think that they have aircon so it would not matter so much having said that in the worm it is nice to drive with the windows open aircon would not do much good I think that if I ever got a Land Rover I would like to have one with the double roof.
