Hello there,
Firstly, I hope nobody minds me asking a g wagen related question around here? I have posted it on a few other forums as well.
Well i have a short wheel base g wagen that I need to replace the shocks on. At the moment I have Koni heavy track Raids on it but the rears are knackered! they are rebuildable but as the pistons are slightly bent on both sides i don't think its worth while. They are also a bit too firm even on their softest setting for my taste.
What i would like to know is if anyone has run OME +5's( or terrafirma) on anything heavier than a landy or on a 110/130 heavily laden? and how did they do?
The g wagen weighs around 2500kgs and I use it more or less only off road.
The main advantage of being able to use the Landy stuff would be the price!!
the OME's are around €100 each the TF's around €60 each and the cheapest long travel g wagen specific ones €150 each(profender Shocks)
Thanks, Adam.

OME have a good reputation but I've not used terrafirma stuff so can't comment.

I would imagine that as long as you go with shocks heavy enough for the weight, or as suggested by the manufacturer you should be fine.

Welcome to the forum btw, and I moved your thread to where more people might see it Wink

Welcome to the forum.

You are asking about the dampers (shocks),
but it is the springs that support the vehicles sprung weight.

What springs are fitted or being fitted to suit the weight and articulation required?

But it is the dampers that cope with the oscillations and if you fit the wrong shocks with all that extra height and weight you can get seasick or fall over or both.

I put procomp ES1000s on my Blitz and destroyed them in 3 months, then broke the 3000s I replaced them with. Eventually I had to fit Es9000s and put up with a harsher ride on the road for the benefit of coping with the hammering off road.

I reckon you need a holistic approach

Indeed, why i ask the question about the springs, taking the 'holistic approach'.

After all, if the vehicle is just sitting static, not moving, just as a trial for height, vehicle loaded etc.
it can sit there on a set of springs and no dampers.
Cant sit up there on Dampers and no springs tho.

Matching suspension to needs and requirements.

Hello all and thanks for the replies
I reckon the spring rates are okay as i have tried them with other standard height shocks to see if the ride was as harsh as with the Koni's and it was much better especially with the original Mercedes ones. But as the springs are +3inch these shocks are not an option.
the Koni's are great on the road but as i don't use the car on the road that's not much use to me.
I've been reading a bit about the terrafirma +5's and at €60 a shock it very tempting!!!
Saw a post about someone using them on a 130 fully laden with no probs??
