hi peeps. doing a yj spring conversion and with the fabrication needed i was going to swap the axles to hi lux?
what year/model/enginesized hilux would i be looking at?
props and flanges to mount to sj tranny?
currently has 1.6 8v vitara lump and a rock crawler box. will the ratios in the diffs on the hilux axles matter?
any pros and cons of this and advice needed.
what is a sensile price to pay on hi lux axles?
can you convert the drums to discs?

i used lj70 landcruiser axles on 99..the rear diff on the cruiser is offset like the sj..the hilux has a centred diff.
the lj70 comes with rear lsd as standard(rear lsd can be fitted to the lj70 front axle with a bit of modding. )
sj props can be redrilled to fit toyota diffs or better still have the criuser props cut and shut to length(wider angle stronger props)that bolt up to the diffs and the sj t/case flanges can be easily modded to accept the toy props.

the lj70 axles have 4.88 to 1 diffs i think....worked fine with my 4.16 t/case and 37 inch tyres.

Because mose jeeps the front diff is on the wrong side unless you come accross something like wagoneer axles you could go landrover and upgrade the diffs and shafts ( and it would probs still cost you less than the yota axles but then it depends on how hard your going to beat on it

i did yj with toyota axles and a 8 to 1 transfer box on 35s it worked well. if you go on the http://www.landcruiserclub.net/ forum look for a fella called karl webster he sells parts for 70s and 80s.
i have had a couple of set of him cheap.

Unless youre gonna fit ashcroft or similar parts i wouldnt go for landrover axles. In mh experiance they are no stronger than suzuki. but parts are cheap. Also consider nissan patrol axles. Try and get y60 as they have a rear locker and you can fit the rear lsd from a maveric in the front axle, but they are HEAVY!
