undoubtly not, really for pulling a load with no resistance ( car/boat onto a trailer etc ), so a bogged down 4x4 is a no no
lots of info on this site, a small suzi etc requires say 8500 lbs winch, a big landie 12000 lbs
pullys can help
best advice is not to get stuck, or if using a small winch or hand winch ( or high lift kit with the RIGHT winching kit ), to pull yourself "back out" rather than "on through"
winching should not be attempted without careful forethought

"That's a real boggy morass in front of me - is there plenty of trees/boulders in the right position to winch on for when* I get stuck"
*note the prominent use of the word WHEN!

Yes , I agree trying to pull above vehicles weights and resistance can lead to things snapping? Many years ago a friend got a d6 caterpillar stuck in soft clay and we winched it out with a 10.5 ton winch attached to 721case front loader but it was close one . That's why I prefer strops over swr when it goes pear shaped swr leaves indentions in concrete .
