Ohhh those were the days.
Back when difflock was difflock. Remeber the fuss it caused when the old look difflock was moved over to the new look difflock. It wasnt far off death threats from certain people and they were going to leave never to return again,
PS can we now have our star rating back for postes please. I used to like voting bit like the for runner of liking on FB

I don't think it's a musso driving guys departure that's changed
He was entertaining but did **** off a lot of people too....
It's just the change in the hobby, differs used to have lots of zuk drivers, they are a dying breed as sj's rot away
Also the general cost of living is limiting the number of people who can effort a weekend toy
For me I'm just busier with life in general and find I look at face book more than differs.....

People do come and go, people get quiet and not so quiet, can't we all just get along?!... oh yeah NO (but that's half the fun isn't it).
I miss the baldy scouse git but I do try and keep in touch with him, the text SPAM is getting a bit much though...

No, it wasn't Elwyn. He's a posh southerner type who ended up moving to Cambodia. This is really annoying me now...

Just to get back to the OP ...
If the Forum is dying, how come I often have 2 pages of 'posts since last visit' with loads of activity in every vehicle tech section?
Ebbs and flows, ebbs and flows.

Any good forum is always a bit more than just a forum, its a community.
This like so many other forums is supposed to be a technical forum, but not everyones technically minded, it dosnt make them any less a part of the community. At the end of the day we all share a hobby, some more serious about it than others.
I go green laning once in a blue moon, but give tech help most days, others visit p&p sites every week end, know sod all about motors but just enjoy the fun, so dont give any tech help (does that mean they cant be a member of Difflock?)
Like all communities some will not get along with others, there will be cliques, arguments, there will also be some good advise and help.
Thats life, live with it.
What i do see, is lots of noobs asking for info, getting the info and never returning, however they are still counted as one of the 17000 members, or whatever figure that was quoted in a previous post.
Without doubt its quiet on difflock, but go to one of the landrover forums, or POCUK and its a lot buisier. Recession? so you might not be able to afford the hobby, but you dont just lose the interest, and it costs nothing to become a member or post on Difflock.
The owners of this forum are in danger (so typical of british industry) of sticking their heads up their backsides and saying "were ok cos were the best" only to find that its all over when they finally get their head out. (The british motorcycle and car industry are fine examples). Yes Difflock is the best at the moment, i suggest that the relevant parties remove their heads asap.
Ged, a colourfull character you either loved him or hated him, was helpfull to me on more than a few occasions, called a spade a spade and could take stick as well as give it, but you had to be clever enough to give it . but none the less a part of the community.
Liquid engineering, a guy that knew mechanics inside out, and leaves me standing, but used to give the brits a bashing, so what? His knowledge is a great loss.
Ivorbiggin, a total t****r who posts stupid pics, and makes stupid jokes, willing to help anyone with Maverano problems, still here but only just.
If your offended by a member, dont read their posts, if they post on your thread, ignore it. whats the problem?
Thats my 2p worth anyways.

Ivor does make many good points there (he's old and sage ) but I can see at least one forum listed there where there's more pointless chatter than anything else. I'll be closing my account on the day a "Good morning Difflock" post appears that gets up to 16 or so pages of CB style nattering.

Lots of good sense there, however the 'cult of the personality' can destroy a Community. Anyone who thinks they can force Difflock to be run exactly as they like and get away with it (and I include Admins & Owners past and present) is very misguided and we've had the Cornish SJ boys, the Landy**** trolls and a few others try in the last few years and fail.
Ged is a good person with his own flaws, but he's not dead (I hope), he's not the Pope or god so can we please move on?

Richard, i know you want to put this to bed, but heres some food for thought.
Firstly im not on a bring back Ged crusade, he left of his own accord and i know some of the reasons why.
You have missed the crux of my point, which is, Difflock has gone very quiet. Why?
If i were an owner of a forum/buisness (even if only 50%) i would be wanting to know why, and checking out other forums with a similiar ilk, sure as hell i wouldnt be sitting on my laurals doing nothing about it.
Smug attitudes "were the best so we cant be touched" and "Everythings fine nothing needs changing so move along please" was the downfall of much of british industry.
Comments such as
"this is a technical forum and the last time I can see that you made a helpful technical post was Fri Sep 02, 2011 at 7:25 pm"
Is enough to frighten away any noob thats not technically minded, and who is looking for a decent forum to join.
17k members? the sound of their silence is deafening.
