Hello does anyone know if i can put i locking fuel cap on my 90
its a 1985 90 and its currently got this cap on it
http://www.paddockspares.com/nrc9572-fuel-cap-t...-non-locking.html

and ideally would like to put a lockable one on so was hoping this would fit

Lots of views - but no replies...

...I see no reason why it shouldn't fit. My 90 has the same fuel pipe as yours (I think) and I have a lockable cap. If in doubt accost a 90 driver at a petrol station and ask to try his filler cap.

You would be surprised as I have had stranger requests from fellow LR drivers Cool

New type cap won''t fit as old filler has bigger diameter. You would need to get a new type filler and change out old one, have a look in your local scrap yard for any 90's being scrapped.

Ok thanks for the replies i will either change the filler neck or weld some sort of hasp and staple to the original cap.

Paddocks and other retailers sell a fuel cap hasp, I have one on my SIII
http://www.paddockspares.com/504697-fuel-cap-locking-hasp.html

But then again my cap is one of these
http://www.wapsipurtlandrover.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-...P-NRC2538-GENUINE
the padlock fits through the hasp and filler cap.
The Series III had two types of filler cap; one with two prongs, one with three. Not sure what size they are or if they'll fit the early 90s.

There is a discussion on something similar in the Veh Prep forum:
http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic.php?t=73197
Ian says he has made his own, with a deadbolt fitted.
If you ask him, he might let you know how it's made/fitted.

I have a locking cap on my 1985 ex MOD 90 - just a word of warning........ last year in the snow and ice. I went to fill up my nice snow beating - standard car rescuing Landrover - and guess what? the stupid angled cap with special rain collecting slot - closed by a spring shield which lets water in was frozen solid! I spend 10 minutes hugging it blowing it squirting lock de icer into it and ended up taking it home and putting the girl's hair dryer on it! So my advice is work out something with a padlock!
