Stop dropping a spinning wheel. No axle will survive that.

I used to run 33's and never had an axle problem on Dana 30/35. Well apart from a whining rear pinion bearing.

The US forums generally seem to think the 30 is good for bigger tyres than we've got. Maybe consider heavy duty UJ's and quality hubs.

Never had a problem myself.

Try using grand Cherokee cv joints rather than xj uj's. they are stronger and pretty cheap too for pattern parts.

if you are breaking UJ's on 31's then it is YOU that is killing them.

If a UJ is rattling it needs changing - if you carry on just using it it will rotate and rip the shaft lugs.

I run 33's, and have for years

How often do you have to change them? 35s on the 2.5 would be awful the gearing would be crap in low range.
I would guess none auto and the less power of the 2.5 would mean a lot more revs? I know Lot with 33s who have no problem.

I run 33's with D30/35 on my TJ. Have done for 3 years now and its gets pretty hammered in the dunes with no probs. The increase from the stock 27'' with 3.07 ratio to 33's was OK but I lost 5th gear and that is with the 4.0L I6 with quite a bit of engine mods. I then changed the ring and pinions to go to 4.88. 5th gear is now usable but I's struggle to get to 130kmph (80mph ish). All the yanks recommend changing the D35 rather than spending to upgrade it. They go for D40's and D44's.

TBH tho I have never heard of anyone having issues with the D30 on the front.

What are you doing to the poor thing?
