If your bored ? Behind the switch panal for the 4x4 , diff locks switches did Volvo run out of ideas just to leave the airfilter hose just resting on fan for rad because they could ?

No, it was put there because it was high up, away from splashing water, mud and dust/dirt.

Quite a few people have piped theirs through the cab behind the passenger seat and up through the roof as a snorkel.

Yes it is well placed to protect from the elements , but what I meant is they could have finished it in a proper outlet , after all the rest of the vehicle is well engineered for 1975 military system .ie common parts for all vehicle s in fleet.

Does yours have the screw in the bottom of the ally air filter assembly to stop water ingress?

I believe they added , moved airfilter modified at some time due some catching fire you only need one , and then you get the knee jerk reaction by the maker ? Will check both in daylight . I have drilled thru the front bulk head and added a housing joining and added extension hose , provided direct cooler air as opposed to indirect air coming underneath or over the rad . Photos this weekend cross fingers .
