well this was delivered to my house on the 30th of december, I got it of this very forum, thanks mdw.

first job was to get it started

So new battery and plugs, clean the dizzy cap and se fired up strait away, then did the rear brake light bulb.

That was it for the 31st

So into the workshop on the 2nd

Front end up in the air

engine crane rigged up and pipes and wires disconected or losened

front sub frames unbolted and engine lowered

Blocks fitted between subframes and chassis rails these will be braced by 50mm box section before its finished

two subframes on the front both needed unbolting and dropping along with the engine and box

then back end up in the air ready to drop the rear beam

Blocks between rear beam and body

Strut extender boxes

that was that for the 2nd of Jan

ok so onto the 3rd of jan

Started by lowering the brake hose clamp and makeing a extender brake pipe.

and fitted extended flexis at the back for some unknown car, went to the motor factors with a tape mesure but do have box with part number on.

steering colum and top engine steady extended

diff rear support drop plat in 5mm steel welded to old diff bar

New wheels and tyres

31/10.5/15s on deep dish 15x8 wheels

need to convert the car from four stud to six, push out 2 oposing studs and bolt the drum to the wheel

Then use the wheel as a jig to drill the drum. Repeat on the other rear drum and on the front hubs

drop the rear damper mounts, dampers look bad but work very well, will look for some new ones soon. drilled new mounts through to the bed

other than that we only welded the rear cross member, sill ends and the rear inner wheel arches that day.

So onto the 4th Jan

Fitted the wheels

as you can see the front wheels have alot of positive camber so most of the day was spent altering the strut spacers but also the front cross member was welded at each end and extended hooks were made for the exhaust hangers

so up to today

trimed up the arches for the wheels so that I could get some steering lock on

front wheels still have a few degrees of positive camber but it is only a few degrees now.

Also cut bac and welded the A pillers for clearance and did some welding on the cab floor. Gear lever adjusted and 4x4 selector lever mecanisam made up. horn fixed, new wipers, extended servo vacum hose, new engine earth and wipers fitted.

It has moved under its own steam again after the lift as we needed to move it out of the way.

I think the Impreza Turbo engines are too wide to fit without massive modifications to the engine bay, I was always impressed with the Brats for performance and handling when they came out. I keep looking at them and thinking about another project!!!

Legacy engines fit but none of the four cam ones do, you have the take large chunks out of the chassis rails and weld them back up.

Would like a 90's 2.2 lagacy lump for the front, nice bost in power and torque with out destroying the gearbox

So just back from the work shop.

Bottom of each A piller welding finished, had to reshape them quite a bit to fit the wheels.

Finished redrilling the front hubs and put the studs in, so now six stud all round

Cut out the front cross member that was very rusty but not picked up on the last MOT due to it being covered by skid plates.

Then welded on a section of 50mm box with a 4mm wall, nice and strong so in the future I can mount a front bar to it, maybe one like the tamiya brat has on it

The list of jobs to do gets smaller, good job as MOT is booked for saturday

No photos ot progress this evening as my camra battries were flat.

Rewelded the bonnet hinges and greased then up.

extended the gear leaver as it was a little low now the box has dropped 6".

Remade and adjusted the 4x4 selector for the same reason as above.

I has MOT Smile Very Happy ;D Surprised

Well a few last minute jobs like fitting the arches this morning and it was up for the MOT at 10 oclock.

Sadly all the MOT pictures are on my phone and I carn't find the micro SD card reader to get them of.

Two advisories on nearside CV boots and a bit of rust at the base of the drivers side A piller, I would say that is a good result.

So I started 2 weeks ag with this

and wanted something like this

so after after 13 days and alot of time in the workshop I have ended up with this

Have to say I am quite pleased with it. Its a bit slow, very bouncy but good fun

You say you want it like the Tamiya Brat. That was 2wd.
It was on the same chassis as the holiday and fighter buggys.

So are you going to convert it to 2wd as well? Laughing

Indeed. I generally have 22-25 in my 33's on my Jeep. Anything more than that and I feel everything. Makes it much better on the road.

Well Big Brat has been doing great service in the snow this week but it has thrown up one problem, over 40mph the steering is very shakey.

I thought this may happen due to the large weight of wheel with a light body on top. I had the problem when I put 38" tyres on my nissan patrol.

So I have spent most of the morning lying in the snow under the front of the truck fitting a steering damper, no photos thought as I was to cold and wet to think about the camera.
