Hi guys just a quick Q
I have discovered a burnt wire going to my indicator stalk
How hard/easy is it to change indicator stalks ?
Do I have to remove the steering wheel ?
And are there any torx screws to remove ?
Thanks in advance
Steve

indicator stalks......easy (especially on a non-airbag model which my experience is with) and is roughly thus:
1. remove steering wheel central cover
2. Undo big nut
3. remove 2 (or 3) bolts from underneath the steering column cover.
4. pull, push, hit with big hammer until your eyes pop-out..and remove steering wheel (otherwise use a pulling tool/bolt!)
5. remove steering column covers
6. unplug quick-connects from the switches
7. unscrew the collar for the switch module
8. pull off switch module and re-assemble with new....
Torx screws: not that I remember........
it's a piece of weewee. However, I have no idea what you do if wheel has an airbag......

I think you need to remove the steering wheel and instrument binnacale to get the steering cowling off. After that it's pretty straight forward. I would avoid using a Britpart replacement.

No Defender has a driver's airbag - that's why they can't be sold in USA

I thought the new ones had a big bulge on the steering wheel for an airbag....oh well. Is it just a big cushion to bang your head off?

They are known as 'airbag style' because they look like they've got them. I worried about that as I beat the crap out of UNB's steering wheel and took a burner to the spline to try and free it off. T'was rusty after being left out in the rain for 2 years!
Came off with a 4lb sledgehammer ... eventually!

Does any one know the size of the nut for the steering wheel ?
I'm going to have to but a new socket as I took my tool boxes down to my old folks for a bit of winter servicing in a nice warm garage (daft I know as I'm left with just a few screw drivers an some pliers till I go down for crimbo )
Thanks steve

if it's only 1 wire that's damaged & indicators still function, you could do a temporary repair with insulating tape, until you can get to your tool kit.

Well after a quick look it's not just one wire it's the wire for indicators and the horn so I have hooked up the horn to a spare switch on my raptor dash for now and indicating the old fashion way of arm out the window

I'm pretty sure it is a 22mm nut.
