My GC CRD has developed a diesel leak on the no.5 injector ( black death). Are there any solutions without having to drop the engine and gearbox ??

Injector fuel leak or injector blow by?
By "black death" do you mean that there is a thick carbon build up around the injector?

No 5 injector is IIRC right under the scuttle/bulkhead and difficult to get to.
If its blow by,use air intake cleaner to dissolve the carbon + lots of digging and cleaning, percy verence is the name of the game. once you have cleared out most of the carbon and have got the injector out its a case of recutting the seat and fitting new injecor seals

There is not yet any carbon build up but definately the smell of unburnt or escaping gasses. It is only on the no.5 ( the one at the back of the engine that is inaccesible). The other 4 you can work on easily.
What is injector blow by?
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

No carbon build up as of yet. I honestly am not expert enough to know what the problem is. The no.5 injector is defo. leaking , I can smell unburned gasses after I shut off the engine. Going to visit 2 local Jeep garages tomorrow and see what they say.

Well PO masked the leak by surrounding the injector with sort of putty. You can feel the injector blowing if you hold your finger against it.
One of the Jeep garages would not take the job oquoted n.
The other Jeep garage has done the job before and quoted me £250 labour costs + parts.
I would like to try to do it myself but not sure I am capable of it.

the likelyhood is that it is not sealing on the seat at the bottom properly (as in that PDF i linked).. i would suggest that if you dont feel entirely comfortable with doing it, you get it done by someone else.. at least then you will have a redundancy of going back and saying "you broke this.. it doesnt work.. fix it" etc, if you mullar the engine yourself then its your pocket it comes out of..

just my 2pence.

no i dont, but its one i had floating in my favorites for ages after we had a similar problem on a volvo diesel (older one)..

a friend sorted that out for us whom is now an expat (if you fancy driving it to greece lol)

my best bet would be to ask around any jeep clubs.. bear in mind if it is the rear injector its gonna be a reasonably expensive job given the engine position..

At present labour rates £250 does not sound expensive looking at the amount of work that needs to be carried out.

Having this fixed next Thursday. Found an ex Jeep dealer mechanic who has started working for himself.
Will let you know how long it takes and how much it costs.
