Hi, I've recently got myself a 2002 GV 3 door, mainly just for off roading. I've already fitted some larger diameter (28.5") Insa Sahara tyres and it's amazing off road with these (I'm going to do a 2" lift with longer springs etc. to gain a bit more clearance and articulation). Anyway, back to the topic...with the bit of off-roading I've done already I've already had a few little bangs and scrapes (Wince!) underneath and so obviously I need to prioritise the protection underneath before anything else. Can anyone suggest what are the critical areas to protect please and, particularly who/where I can obtain the guards? I've searched and searched for sump guards/diff guards but I'm coming up with very little indeed!! I'm sure that it's currently as standard underneath although the fuel tank has a sheet guard under, I presume this is standard? Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks guys.

the easiest thing to do is to get a sheet of ally and using the front susepnsion fixings and the gearbox x member make a long bash plaste from it.
i got my sheet from alocal scrapyard quite cheap.
the car then does slide over things and it protects the front diff, gearbox, transfer box and most of the exhaust.
i hope that helps

Thanks Plugspanner, that's really helpful. It certainly looks effective, and easy enough to do. I believe there are threaded mounting points underneath that can be used. is this correct? That should look after the front and middle but the obvious issue after that is the rear diff, this will also be by far the lowest point of the vehicle, especially after the lift (as it's a fixed axle obviously). Does anybody know of any way to protect the rear diff casing? Can Land Rover diff guards be modified to fit at all? There's loads of those out there for cheap.

if you get a piece of angle and drill holes to fit it to the frong wishbone mounts then you can drill holes and weld nuts to it to keep the front end
under the diff secure, the gearbox x member has predrilled and tapped holes so easy enough, i then used 'U' bolts onto the rear round x member just before the diff to secure the rear end and used some flat plate to bolt it to the ally sheet.
as for the rear diff i made a bash plate for that from some 6mm thick ally and i also used 'U' (exhaust clamps) bolts onto the nose of the rear diff.
sorry no pics as yet, will try to take some over the weekend.

Fantastic, that's really helpful thank you. It would be great if you could post a pic or two of your rear diff guard construction too

i used one of these:-
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Defender-D...9Ts7EIFb1p0iLczJw
welded that to the diff housing, i did noeed to gring it a bit to make it fit better.
then a sheet of 6mm ally and a large 'U' clamp.
i drilled holes in the weld on diff cover and bent the ally to shape around the underside of the diff and fixed the front to the 'U' clamp
sorry pics are not very good, not much light under car port
hope you can follow that,

Thank you so much, you've been extremely helpful and I really appreciate you taking the time. That looks like a good (and cheap!) solution...I'll get one of those and cobble something together with the old welder. Thanks again

Davis no longer make anything for this vehicle because Suzuki have too much variation in their underbody layout between
