IM new to LPG and have been playing abit to find out my range.

Today I ran it on LPG till it was stuttering then flicked the switch to petrol. Later that day I went to fill up and it took 96l before the pump stopped.

However, according to my workings i should get alot more than that as i have a 80l tank in the boot, then 2 x sill tanks at 35l each (i think) and finally 2 tanks again at 35 each (i think) in the place of the original tank. So based on the 80% max i should get 176l in there.

The other strange thing is both the digital gauge and analouge gauge are only showing 1/2 full/empty (or depending on you outlook on life).

This cant be correct,

PS 1st post on here and its great Smile

Welcome to the forum.

Is there 2 separate points here?
Firstly,
Your not getting your fuel from all the tanks & the gauge/indicator is working off one or 2 or even 3 tanks only.
(is it 5 different LPG tanks you have and a petrol tank?)

Secondly.
Was it that,
The Pump cut out because that is the maximum delivery amount it delivers, either on £'s or Litres!
You could actually have the pump zeroed and fill more LPG into your tanks, ??
ie, you are not starting out with all the tanks full (@ 80% capacity).

Question Is there a point that you actually paid for 176 litre or there abouts worth of LPG going into all those tanks, before starting your test?

Sorry, I should of explained. I put 2 x £40 amounts in to see how far I could go on £80 which is the allowance we have for the car share to work. I got 316miles (1/2 which was towing) so im happy. I then thought lets see how far I can get on a full tank so went to fill it to the brim and it took alot less than i was expecting.

It has 5 LPG tanks + 1 small petrol tank and im trying to brim them. I hadnt thought about it shutting cuz its max allowance which is an interestiing thought - will try and put more in nxt month (wen i get paid haha).

I used to count by the miles to the litre.

If you paid 80 pence a litre then you got 100 litres for £80.
316 miles for 100 litres would be 3.16 miles to the litre.

say it was 110 litres you put in, then 2.8 miles to the litre, which is pretty good.

I had 220 litre capacity and got 2.5 miles to the litre, so was ok for 550 easily, but towing and going slower i could get 3.5 miles to the litre and get over 700 miles.

Ambient air temp will make a difference to running and fuel used etc.

if you get 2.8 miles to the litre & 170 litres on board, you might be good for 500 miles.
i would maybe work on it being roughly doing 2.5 miles to the litre & expect a minimum 400 miles on the Gas.

10 litres giving 25 miles, 75 pence a litre =£7.50.
10 litres giving 35 miles, 75 pence a litre = £7.50, thats even better. Very Happy
so 100 litres giving 350 miles for £75.

Whoooo !

went to refill today - took 156litres or LPG Smile much more like it. Found a different station just down the road from the other way which is abit more "propper" and offering same P/L !

Only got 230 odd miles from the last 91l refill but i was keeping my foot down more than usual. I also have a small flat spot around 2k RPM so i think abit of a service is in order. Oils nice and golden but thing the ignition side needs a tweak !

Just thought id do an update for future searchers.

Like i said, I found a new place just down the road. I now get 150l+ before it start clicking. The 1st place was a small garage which simply couldnt afford to keep the tank pressure up, the new one is at Lymm Services so has plenty of pressure. I also found a small leak near the filler in the hoses so temp bunged it up with some Sikaflex (rough I know).

Put another 150l and got 400miles to the tank and have continued to do so since so im happy. Ive now fixed the leak properly (no sikaflex)

And, Ive also found a place near my GF's selling 10p less a litre so im very happy. Shes averaging pretty constantly 11mpg and havnt serviced her yet (other than fresh oil/filter).

Thanks for your help guys !

i have the reason for your problem, i get my lpg on account, now when the tank is getting low i can't fill up fully or i can if i'm prepared to stand holding the button long enough. this is because i have a boot mounted tank, i've come to the conclusion after speaking to others that the slow fill is when the level in the tank is lower than the height of my boot tank meaning the pump has to do some work, as where when the level is high the pump is just moving fluid.
