Hello all.
I noticed this morning a small pool of dark oily liquid running down the inside of one of my rear wheels from somewhere in the hub.
Not sure at this stage if it is brake fluid or hub gear oil.
I will get the wheel off later today/tomorrow and have a better look, but just wondering if there are any 'usual suspects' I should be looking at, and if anyone knows a good source for seals if that's what it turns out to be?
Have had a quick look on Tatanka but none are listed.
On a different note, I went down to the War and Peace show at Beltring last weekend, and was totally blown away by the amount and variety of vehicles there. I've never seen anything like it. (Only saw one other TGB 1314 though!).
Thanks in advance for any responses,
Lu.

Aw, that's a shame. Not uncommon though. If it's been in storage and you've just woken it up then you probably want to change all the seals as they will be hard and crispy now.
You'll get a lovely mix of gear oil and brake fluid with a hint of grease.
Might be worth taking all the wheels off and sticking it up on blocks and giving it a good under seal as well. Pay attention to all the mud and water traps. It will only take one salty winter road to infect it.
It's not a big job and you'll get to know it by doing it.
I got most of my seals from Brammers and the brake cylinder rubbers are Land Rover interchangeable parts.

Hi Jamie
-thanks for your response, sounds like a good plan to change the seals throughout.
Don't suppose you have a part number for ordering from Brammer, or will they be able to spec from the Volvo part number?
On the plus side, the truck has a very thoroughly-applied underseal throughout -it's just starting to flake off the rubber spring assisters etc. where I have been using the truck.

Sorry, no seal numbers at all. I wish I kept that tatty bit of paper had everything on it!!
Oil seals all have three numbers on them corresponding to outside diameter, inside diameter and thickness. Measure the part not the seal if there's no numbers.
Modern double lipped seals are very good and drops of oil are a thing of the past.
If you need brake cylinder rubbers make sure to buy good ones and not those in a blue box ending with 'ritpart'.
Good luck with it all and keep us posted.

Had the wheel off last night and the good news is that it does not appear to be the hub gear seals.
I am therefore moving the hub seal replacement down the list a little ways.
-After a bit more foraging online, I see that House of Flying Spanners do a conversion kit (if they still have em) so that you can use modern seals rather than the STEFA ones (which run to about £60 each at Tatanka).
The bad news is that the brake cylinder has p*ssed itself all over the place leaving a horrible sludge of brake fluid and mud all over the inside of the wheel and stripping lots of paint.
For some reason both brake reservoirs are down to the minimum - I thought the circuits were isolated from each other...
Have ordered today replacement cylinders for both rearmost wheels (pattern parts by Delphi - presume the quality is ok??), and some sets of new seals to rebuild the Girling cylinders and swap them back when I get a chance.
Will check the brand of the seal kit, but as they were about £3 a set I am now wondering whether to use them....
Also, 2 new shoes to fit as the sludgy one is now nicely lubricated.
So that's my Saturday booked up. Not sure if I will get round to making the fridge freezer.
All in all not getting much done at work but enjoying learning about the truck!

Getting mucky is the only way with TGBs.
brakes are generally LR 109 V8 and Delphi are perfectly acceptable to my mind.
