LED lights really is a energy saving device but I suggest not to buy it for now. If competition in the market is tight, it will cost less that it is now so buying now is not a good idea. As you said, it cost 30-50 dollars and that is a big deal. If you change all your bulb with lead, it will be an awful cost of money. The price will go down eventually and wait for it :D

its not really. i mean 50 dollars for the space station, thats a big deal, but 50 dollars isnt really much in the grand scheme of things.....did i mention we dont use dollars?

Ok I'll stop installing LED and other energy efficient form of lighting and return to tungsten light bulbs which use loads of energy and require regular lamp changes.
On second thoughts I will stick with CFL's, LED, discharge and induction lighting
PS I'm really impressed with the 9W LED down lighters I fitted in one of my bathrooms.
PPS
When did Americans bother with saving energy......

What LEDs have you fitted - I see Phillips have now jumped on the bandwagon and are selling their new range in Sainsbury's for around £12 a piece

a long time ago in a land far away I used to have a house and a nagging wife.
I stripped out the halogens from the kitchen and bathroom and fitted led down lights so i dropped from 1,500 w to 120w power usage.
we used to pay estimated bills by direct debit, as such we got a yearly cash back which we dutifully excepted, when we moved and put our final reading through I got £300 cash back from the lecy people on over billing
any way I left the dragon a while ago and moved into a caravan on a farm I have a complete 12v led lighting set up running off a battery bank that is fed from solar trickle chargers, I no longer participate in the national grid so yeh 3 months plus of free lighting so far!
all i need to do now is sort out the sanitation arangments.
