I think this would be perfect as a roof bar/rack mounted light system.

The main thing being how damm small it is compared to conventional spot lights.
Keep a couple of traditional spot/fog lights in the legal places around the front end, then one of these should be more than enough off road.

It works out around £200 plus postage, so its not cheap, but xm-l's put out a hell of a lot of light and the people involved in building it are well respected.
I'm hoping to stretch to one when they become available, I think its a far better solution than huge spots on the roof and four decent spots run to close on thirty quid a light any way.

Ok, it has white bits, I'll grant you, but they are down to age rather than design.

There's a fella in the UK builds something similar. They're aimed at mountainbikers, but should be easily adapted to mount on a 4x4 roofrack.

The one I looked at runs xp-g led's, about 500 lumen per led at max possible drive current, the light bar I linked runs xm-l's, driven at the full 3a, 900 lumen per led. And it works out about the same cost as the troutie lights.
They are in my opinion, extremely over priced for what you get.
