Well, after 2 years of my Vitara being sat its finaly back, but its so slow, doesnt like to go over 50 and just generally feels alot slower than when I had it, and a few comments from people sayin it doesnt seem right.

I fixed a fuel leak to the pump, fixed petrol leak in tank, but still smellin rather petrol'y, and just behaves like a complete slug!

* How do I adjust the fuel in? Its a 93 JLX Vit 1.6 8v carbed

* and what else should I check? Also, what is the firing order (front to back)? 1342?

Take it for a run, mile or 2, then have a look at the spark plug, should be a nice brown colour, black sooty is over fueling

Other things to check,

Choke stuck, weak springs, corroded internals stopping things closing,

If it isn't running rich, thhen it can be running lean, meaning there is air coming in somewhere.

Take the chamber off the top of the carb... then unscrew and remove the top butterfly... thats the choke one.

I bet it will improve things massively!!! Just be careful not to drop the screws into the carb!! Wink

If it's been sitting for a while, it might be worth to check the brakes aren't stuck. Although that wouldn't make it run rich, it would make any engine problem seem a lot worse.

When I bought my Vitara it had been sitting unused for a few months outside. Brakes were stuck - had to change one of the calipers and both rear shoes. It too ran rich and was extremely sluggish, but not sure how much could be the same as mine is fuel injected.

However, here are the bits I found helped:

* New oil
* New spark plugs, leads, dizzy cap + rotor, ignition coil (lucas high performance coil)
* New air filter
* Fuel system cleaner
* New fuel filter (wow!)

In general I've found that my car runs rich and stinks of petrol if anything is anything is wrong with ignition or fuel system.

Good luck!
