Need some advice as always this is a big lurning curve this Discovery 200Tdi.

Coming down the motor way then lost power. Engine is fine but now drive.

I selected Diff lock and maneged to limp it the last mile of a 86 mile journey.

Any ideas.......I think it might be a drive shaft.

Both props are ok but when I turned the front it had loads of play so suppect a front dive shaft.

The issue is i need to get home on Sunday.

I have a complete front axle in the back but not many tools.

Any help or advice please as I think I'm going to have a buissy day tomorrow.

pull the front prop off and select 4wd , if you go easy it`ll get you home .
when you say not many tools , do you have enough spanners to take off the full swivel assembly , if you think its a shaft its easyer to swap the full corner . from memory , 1/2 inch multisided socket for the calliper bolts and 3/4 for the sterring bars 5/8ths for the seven bolts that hold the rest in place .slide the job lot off and fit the spare .

I have a complete spare axle in the back which I got a week ago. I was going to refurb it before fitting.

I will swop out the hole L/H side first. I just hope thats all it is.

Only problem is I have no jack or axle stands.

Thanks for the feed back.

It sounds like a cv joint.

DO NOT enguage diff lock put it in 1st with the engine running let the clutch up if you have no drive the front prop shaft should be spinning. Get someone to have a look while you keep your foot on the brake.

If the front prop is spinning, switch the engine off and put the gearbox into neutral.
Jack up the front drivers side wheel and turn it by hand, get someone to hold the propshaft because as you turn the wheel if a cv joint or drive shaft has gone the prop should not turn. If the person cannot hold the prop that wheel should be ok.

Do the same with the other side.
The busted side will turn but the prop wont.

I hope that makes sence.

wizard

Thanks for the info.
Only problem is all my tools are in Oxford. So will take the prop shaft off and limp it home. I have a complete axle calipers, pads disc all fitted so could just swop out but as I said do not have the tools here.

Well it looks like a wheel bearing failure leading to a half shaft shearing. Swaped it out from the spare axle. All good.

will find out for good when driving home tomorrow.

Thanks for the replys guys.
