heres my future Fourtrak project using a Trak engine and LJ70 chassis, gearbox and running gear.
bought the LJ a little while ago and intended to finish the pickup conversion and use that, but then i remembered how annoying i found my Sportrak to be when i pickuped that! and i like the ol' F70 'traks
bit of a shame to scrap the LJ70 but the body isn't in the best of health.
will hopefully get most things completed over this summer and have it on the road by the end of next year at the latest.... hopefully!
here are the two trucks that i plan to merge into one...
modification list is as follows-
rear 3 link suspension conversion like THIS using offroad armoury creeper joints
extended shocks
full external roll cage
Front bumper
Front 9500 low line winch (with raised solinoids)
rear bumper with height adjustable/removable tow hitch)
fit intercooler & tweak fuel pump
Front & Rear (ARB?) Lockers
rear disk conversion (using hilux disks?)
x-eng transfer box hand brake?
on board air- (air con pump & tank or compressor)
front suspension mod??
less interesting mods
respray
snorkal
fit CB & aerial
speakers & stereo
integrate carling switches into dash area
wooden/chequer plate partition(+storage?)
benefits of LC before i've even started-
engine conversion to LC box has already been done
K&N air filter
uprated turbo
axle breathers fitted
came with winch tray & heavy winch cables for front winch + 2 isolator switches
twin batteries
5 32"ish special tracks (plan to run 33" Marshall Ventures or similar though)
TJM suspension (of some sort?)
good quality wheel spacers
issues-
LC hydraulic clutch
LC electrically operated 4H
LC slight brake cylinder leak
LC radius arm bent slightly
FT rear wiring needs slight attention
lots&lots of inner rear arch welding required to Fourtrak
don't know what front indicator units to use
few odds & sods from the fourtrak have been robbed (e.g. brake pedal rubber)
Basically, if all goes to plan, it will be my dream Fourtrak!!!

Wow man, This looks like a very proj.
I was just looking at your Land Cruiser set up the 3 link. How much softer are the Creepers than using a Bushed/Rose jointed set up? Or did you just use the creepers for the flex?

cheers guys
not sure how much softer the creeper joints will be but they seem like the way to go after reading a few things and jack (hairyguy4 from the link) says they have worked well on his truck

nice projected and creeper joints should last longer than rose joints as there greaseable and you can rebuild them

RL12, I promise not to take over your posts
Fingers, the Rose joints that i've got available are greasable too, do you think that would make them last as long as the Creeper/JJ/ballistics? From what I've seen, to rebuild them is only a little cheaper than buying a new joint. Just an observation. You guys opionions are appreciated! Thanks

took all the carpets & seats etc yesterday and stripped it down to see the full extent of the rust. believe it or not, i thought it would be worse!!!!
today i cut out the patches of rust and removed a couple more bits, aswell as making reinforcing bars to go accross the doors, as i plan to turn it over to weld up the floor & arches

got the fourtrak body off this morning and turned over ready for welding
although i had a bit more of a measure up and it's not going to be easy shoe-horning it all into one, the landcruisers gearstick is about 10cm further forward than the 'traks which is where the radio and dash goes so will try to come up with a solution otherwise i'll have to use a ftrak gearbox
also the landcruiser's 4H uses a vacum solinoid which i had kinda forgot about, not the end of the world but a bit more work.
the landcruisers wheelbase is just over 4" longer but on my current truck with 33" tyres they look a bit close (too far forward) to the rear wheel arch so may only cut out 3" or so from the chassis

cheers buddy
yeh me too! when i first got my blue F70 i wasn't sure about it being a van but now i can't live without it!
not sure what turbo it's got, i haven't really looked at too much tbh, might just be a fourtrak turbo bolted to the non turbo engine i dunno.
have you fitted a bigger one to your trak?

yeh i guess so parrot, it's just frustrating when i wanna crack on with more interesting parts of the build. got some of this
shalts/schutz stuff to cover it with so once the welding is done and its covered with that jizz i shouldnt have to worry about rust for a while

On a much smaller scale, I can understand how you feel. Lately, I've been so busy with routine maintenance and keeping things going that I haven't really made any progress, but I finally bought all my bits, and now I feel like I'm making progress.
So, your doing good! The photos of the floor before, and then with the progress, show you've done a lot. Just be patient, and keep up. Like Parrot said, it'll be done before you know it, and then you'll be wishing you had another project.
Looking though. Keep it up!

yeh i hear you JemAndes, going to have to put this project on hold for a couple of days whilst i sort out my current trak
but the good news is i've done about 50% of the welding and now need to rejoin the arches to the floor(where all the gaps in the picture are) so i'll turn it back over and do that from the inside i think.
also after over a week of waiting i've heard back from west coast 4x4 with a price for +2" coils so will order them shortly (and like you say "feel like i'm making progress )
also i picked up this trak today as a doner vehicle for a few bits i'll need & then sell the rest

Nice to hear you feel like you're making progress. The doner looks like a right smart trak.
I felt like I was making progress on my rear bumper yesterday... I just got back from the doctor after have metal pulled from my eye, and it's infected. So, progress on hold for me.
Keep upt the cool work, and keep those eyes protected! I was wearing safty glass by the way.

sorry to hear about your eye, i had to go to hospital a month or two ago - not nice.
i was making progress.... untill a disaster happened
a couple of days ago the owner of the yard where i keep my stuff wanted to move my truck with the forklift, he picked it up but then dropped it from about two foot high, i can't log inmto photobucket right now but the roof is caved in and the windscreen is cracked
not sure what to now but it looks like the body might just be scrap metal

pics in the second picture you can see on the left of the pick the dent in the tube above the window - thats what i'm most worried about from a safety/legal point of view - might try and get it assesed by an accident repair place or something.

If you can keep a screen in there without it cracking it will be fine.
The roofs offer no protection anyway, so it isn't compromised safety wise.

yeh not too happy at the moment.
the yard owner said sorry but doesn't seem very bothered about it
another windscreen should fit but i'm not sure about the dent in the metal support above the windscreen which is surely part of the "roll over protection system" and so wouldn't pass an MOT? anyone know any such legalities?
using the doner fourtrak would kind of be the easy option but don't really like them anywhere near as much as the F70 van so wouldn't be able to live with that, plus i started cutting bits out of it...
like i said earlier - need to get it assessed to find out if it is recoverable

As far as the MOT is concerned theres no problem. Theres no fail criteria for roll over protection systems, or any part of the roof unless it affects the seat belt anchorage. we stop looking at 30cm above the seat belt ancorage on the B & C post's.
If you can get another screen in without it breaking great, if not you can either leave the screen out or make a frame for a drop down screen, either way it will pass. All is not lost.
Re the yard owner, nail a dead chicken to his front door and send him a few corn dollies untill he coughs up

ok well thats good news.
although the the windscreen is cracked it looks more like it hit a stone or something as the smash is quite concentrated as apposed to crack from a change in shape of the surrounding metal... fingers crossed.
i have a crash repair contact who might be able to help either recover it or tell me how, he's letting me know tomorrow.
in other news, ORA creeper joints should arrive tomorrow
