hi,
this isnt a proper restoration, its *meant* to be a fairly practical towing vehicle, that will be a daily drive aswell probably... it was orriginaly a 6 pot, but has been made a v8, well not anymore... it was getting a straight 6 diesel 4.2 from a nissan patrol, but that was very big and there was so much cutting around it wouldnt make sense. instead its getting a 2.8 daihatsu td, before any critisising, these are good strong engines, go on forever and run on veg....
so far the chassis repaires have been done and the engine and box are here, the rear body is back on the chassis aswell, just the hard bit now.... the picture of the guy pointing (my old man) is showing where the rear gearbox output would be using the nissan lump...
the engine and box that was going to be used...
the pointer...
chassis...
one way of getting to the underside welding done...
the worst patch of rust.
body back on the freshly painted chassis.

Oooooh, you said "a" frame!!!!
I didn't realise people were still trying to achieve something with leaf sprung landies.
After 60 years of 2mm nearly metal you'd think we knew by now they weren't worth the effort!!
says me with a 6.2 V8 diesel leafer.
I don't get the bit where you say a 2.8 made more sense than a 4.2. That's just not true. Bigger is always better when it comes to engines.
I'm on the lookout for a 6.5 turbo now.

not my cup of tea, the leafs, i mean they're cool, and i have a few, but much prefer coils..
the chassis arnt much as you say, but this ones been "in the family" as it were for 10/15 years, and too good to scrap.
yeah i would of kept the 4.2, but its not my build

Just a thought that may or may not be relevant but now might be a good time to take a bit out of the crossmember where the bell housing sits to clear the front prop if the tranny ends up further back. A bit of pipe welded in would do the job.
Epic roof rack would make a good camping ground for a couple of tents and keep them out the mud at events. Love it!
Which brake setup are you going to run? If the footwells are rotten stick some 90/110 ones in to let you upgrade the master cylinder and brakes later.
Keep up the good work but don't forget to get out and have fun too!!

thanks for the suggestion, i'll mention it to dad...
the roofrack is great! will be used for spare wheels etc, wouldnt if it was actualy going offroad, but will be fine on the road i expect.
the footwells are surprisingly good may well upgrade the brakes, but then again may not, we'll see..
haha well apart from 2 weeks of exams, been having plenty of 4x4 fun, 2 events in 2 weekends...
