In the process of replacing the head gasket as it was pressurising the coolant system and i have some questions.

ok so first of how can i tell if the heads have been skimmed before?

is it normal for where the injector hole is to be bent where the piston is hitting the head? all 4 heads are like this.

how much on average does it cost to get all 4 heads pressure tested and maybe skimmed?

the gasket looks ok i.e. there isnt any significant signs of corrosion or damage. it is a one piece gasket, not the 4 separate gaskets (its a p reg, 1997? is this normal?) but no.1 head (at the front of the jeep) exhaust valve has like a yellow, gunky almost like glue substance around it/in it and a slight scratch by the valve. will this be the reason for it pressurising?

phew :/

thanks in advance, probably be more questions to follow Sad

gaskets don't normally go - its heads.

Also heads should NOT be skimmed at all - just cleaned up

Sad

sounds like someone may have had heads skimmed, and then fitted wrong thickness gasket..........

surface of heads should only be cleaned - or else you will have continual head problems until new heat treated ones are fitted....

The heads are coated so your not supposed to skim them . Saying that I had 4 heads skimmed for my old 2.5 against the recommendation of a Vm diesel specialist at Chesterfield and I didn`t have an issue running it for a couple of years and about 15,000 miles . Sold it on after that so don`t know if there has been any issues latter down the line .

If the engine was running then you only need to remove water jacket and look - but a little late for that now.

That you have circled is normal due to the injector its cracks from the valve area you need to look for or just get it preasure checked to find out properley

look in detail at the area between valves, it is more prone for cracking than the circled one
