Thanks for the reply, that has helped immensely, i take it the solenoid valve tee's out of line between pump and extra caliper and other side tee's back in before pump? shouldnt be hard to figure, i even held onto the electrical connector for the pump , i like the idea of little effort required to lock a wheel, just a simple button.

Um, sort of...
The connections to the ABS pump are as follows:
-Reservoir to black connection on the side (push on connection).
-T in reservoir line to low pressure (relief) side of solenoid valve.
-Brake line from port where the master cylinder would normally connect to high pressure side of solenoid valve.
-Left brake line to left brake port.
-Right brake line to right brake port.
Good luck!

thats interesting, had a look at the pump i have and it doesn't have the push fit feed... think they where on the pumps with traction control. although mine has a blanking plug in it's place.
i did read that the bmw unit has 6 valves in it on the wiring diagrams 3 are labeled inlet 3 outlet... thinking 3 maybe to release the pressure??
mine looks like the one below

Ah one of those. Um, I'm afraid I don't know with yours to be honest. The trouble you may encounter is that you obviously need a reservoir somewhere to supply the pump. You'll need to try and get some fluid in it and experiment which ports pressurize when you run the pump and go from there. Its an E36 pump I use with only 3 outlets.

from what i read, bmw done about three pumps in the e36, plain old abs (one i have) one for ASC and one for ABS/ASC+T, how main of the plastic inlets did yours have?, all the ones i find on ebay have two. doesn't matter if i have to get another

Mine has 2. The pump is in 2 halves.
Ports common to each other:
-1 plastic inlet, brake line from master cylinder for front, two brake outlets to front calipers
-1 plastic inlet, brake line from master cylinder for rear, one brake outlet to rear caliper

result, just sorted another pump exactly the same as your's, cheer's for all the help, once i have it i shall have a play and see if the second set of internal valves will release the pressure.

Thanks very much
I Had an excellent weekends trialling. Only 2 mudguards became victim to the terrain. After 18 sections and a battle with Ken Odom to the last section, I finished on 6 points, 4 points ahead of Ken.
Very happy with how the truck went. Got a few jobs to do before the nationals next month now.

Since my last update things have been going well.
I've competed in 4 national rounds, 2 at Sandford quarry and 2 at Eartham, and I come away with 4 firsts.
My entry has been accepted and paid for to Eurotrial this year and with time ticking away, I'm currently cracking on with checking out everything on the truck. Eurotrial is near San Marino in Italy this year, giving a 2600 mile round trip. Not the sort of distance to go to be finding something wrong once I'm there!
Right so I removed both axles
and all the panelwork
stripped the front axle
got the girlfriend rubbing down all the panels
welded in some rather large gussets to stiffen up the cage and to try and make trees slip over the cage a bit better. Also modified the doors to suit.

commenced teaching the girlfriend how to spray...
didn't actually do a bad job
stripped rear axle
Stripped all the brakes and rebuilt with new seals. Found 6 pistons seized solid out of 16!
Welded some 5mm angle up both edges of the triangles. There were a few signs on damage so hopefully this will provide some extra protection.
This is the stage I'm at at the moment. Quite a bit of stuff to do yet but I'm hoping by the end of the weekend I'll have the axles back together, beadlocks welded up and made some progress on preparing the cage for spraying. 5 weeks today I'll be camping in Italy! Can't wait![/img]

Been pretty busy so not had much time to update.
Stripped and sprayed up the axles:
and the panels
Welded up the beadlocks
Reassembled axles
Rubbed down the cage for spraying
Primered

.....After a fair bit of work (no photos I'm afraid), I got it all back together, sprayed the wheels, fitted the beadlocks, refitted axles, and ended up with this:
Found a fair bit when rebuilding that needed repairing or replacing so I think it was well worth it. Still got a few bits and pieces left but largely we're ready to go. Italy is now only a week and a bit away so no time to waste!
I've also got a few modifications to do in order to get her ready for having a go in the KoV LCQ the weekend after Eurotrial. It's going to be a busy few weeks! [/img]

Back from Eurotrial now, all unloaded and unpacked and still in one piece
Largely everything went very well. We had good journeys both ways taking around 36 hours each direction. Approx 1250 miles there and back and the shogun didn't miss a beat. Even crossing the alps in 40*C heat we plodded on. The camp site was good as we had some nice showers and toilets, everything a camper needs! Other than the heat, again reaching 35*C over the competition weekend it was very comfortable.
Competition wise things went pretty well to. Sections on the Saturday were reasonably easy for what Eurotrial normally offers. Lars Dahl went round on a clear day, something unheard of at Eurotrial! I was having a good day until I broke my rear prop on the 6th section of the day. This cost me 200 points of the 240 I finished the day on. After stealing the Finnish teams welder we repaired the prop and finished the rest of the day. Without the breakage we could of been sitting in 5th at the end of the Saturday, instead we were 15th.
In the drivers meeting on the Saturday there were a lot of complaints that all sections were too easy in all classes, so the Italians made up for this on the Sunday. A lot of the downhill gates were now some serious climbs. Many of the gates were much more technical and it made for an interesting days trialling.
I had a problem with the front difflock not operating so in the end I piped it up with the rear so both operated together. Other than this I had no mechanical problems on the sunday. I had some good sections, the more technical ones proving to be the best. I only failed to get to the end of one section, one of the climbs was just to steep - which annoyed me Nevermind, thats the name of the game.
By the end of the weekend I finished in 9th which I was quite please with. With 14 out of the 16 sections going very well I was quite happy. If the last 2 went as well we'd of finished in 4th so we weren't far off the money.
I've highlighted a few weaknesses with the truck having some tougher sections to drive at. I need either more power or gearing to run the big tyres effectively. Currently I'm contemplating fitting a 3.0lr V6 honda motor instead of the 2.2 S4 that I have at the moment. They're the same weight but I'd get a little more HP and 30% more torque from the V6.
The rear prop needs redesigning but this has always been the trucks weakness. I'll probably redo this with the engine change. Lastly I need some more practice at some proper steep climbs.
So... let the preparation begin. 11 months to go until Slovakia Eurotrial 2014.

Cheers Nick
I was very pleased with how it all went. Overall I had a lot less problems this year than last, and I was a lot more competitive. Shows progress! Another 12 months and hopefully we can be stronger in every department.

After a successful day trialling with Mid Wales 4WD the other day, I put the truck on the trailer, but then couldn't select reverse, so I just strapped her down where she was. Got home but then couldn't start her - wouldn't even turn over. Very strange...
The starter is interlocked so that it will only start in Park - this is a safety feature so you can run yourself over - something we managed to do before. Anyway, on checking the gear linkage, I found this:
That would explain the pretty lax shifting! So, with the problem identified I repaired it and and usual, stuck some more steel in there. This bit has been like this since the original build so it's done alright for itself.
Repaired and lots of gears again
As I previously posted, I'm looking into doing something in order to get some more shove. Well looking at the options turbo and new engine seem to of been the most suitable options.
The turbo route is quite an unknown to me an would involve quite a lot of tinkering, remapping, possible decreased reliability and some extra pieces to squeeze in - turbo, pipes, intercooler, added oil lines etc.
A replacement engine is by no means an easy step either, especially as the truck is very much designed around this one, and it's the 'wrong' way round. The engine and gearbox is opposite to most vehicles. However changing to something else does have other advantages. More power/torque obviously. But also with the engine in the centre of the truck, weight distribution should be more even. Possibly straighter props. No need to mess with standard reliability.
I've been having quite a study of things today and a new engine would be a massive job. I'd need to firstly get it in there, more the fuel tank, probably radiator, new props, refit hydraulic pump (which also spins the other way), move reservoirs, make firewall accessible, exhaust(s)... no doubt lots more! I do however think this is the way forward and I'm currently favouring the Honda Accord 3.0lr V6.
It's a good looking motor, Honda reliability, completely over-engineered, 200bhp (much lower peak than H22), 200+ft/lb (again much lower peak and flatter curve than H22), Reasonably compact for a 3.0lr, aluminium block - from what I can find out it may only be a matter of kgs heavier than the 2.2. Lots of benefits. The only unknown is the gearbox. They do have problems but, doesn't everything.
This is something that I need to crack on with as it needs to be tested (hopefully not to destruction) before events next year. So... watch this space!
Any suggestions of suitable motors welcome - although be quick as I've eyed up a suitable donor!

Well after much pondering, measuring, pondering, reading and more pondering, this has appeared in my shed...
A 1998 Honda Accord 3.0lr V6 Vtec.
I bought it supposedly with a head gasket failure, but as yet I've found no evidence of this. Going by the story from the previous owner, it may of been a diagnosis from an optimistic mechanic looking for a job who then proceeded to try and buy it! The cheek!
Anyway, I've spent the weekend getting it back in full working order. It hadn't run for 3 years until yesterday. A charged battery and a water refill later, first time it turned over away she went. This is why I use Honda She did have a bit of a hunt though which turned out to be a sticky idle valve. Cleaned this and with a bit of other tinkering everything seems hunky dorey.
There is a small water leak from somewhere so I'm guessing that the steam the previous owner saw - which always means head gasket folks! - could of been if it was run low on water and boiled the last bit off.
Now I've got something to actually measure against, I've been able to have a better look as to whether or not the V6 will actually fit. The conclusion... it's going to be bloody tight!
From what I've figured out so far I'm going to need/have to:
-Move the firewall forward 3" to butt up against the seat.
-Move the radiator into the new 3" gap to give enough width between the rad and the fuel tank which can hopefully stay where it is.
-Move the hydraulic steering valve forward due to the firewall moving.
...and that should get me enough room to get it in there, just!
Following that, I need to install the actual engine.
-New engine mounts, probably poly bushed this time to save space and stiffen stuff up.
-New exhaust system.
-New coolant lines.
-Complete rewire.
-New props.
-lots lots more!
If I decide to go ahead I'll be ploughing on with the swap after my next trial on the 1st. Could be the last event as a mere 2.2!

I'm swapping the whole lot in. Still auto with 1, 2, D3 and D4 but no tiptronic anymore. This isn't a problem though as I've never used it with the prelude motor. Hopefully starting looking at wiring tomorrow morning. The swap starts after trialling Sunday

Right then, the conversion has begun. I completed the final trial as a 2.2 on Sunday - managed to roll it for the first time since Eurotrial 2012! Talk about going out with a bang!
Sunday evening I pulled out all the dash to give me access to the wiring loom. Today I commenced chopping and pulling cables. Annoyingly I haven't been able to find a correct schematic yet, only a list of pinouts for the ECU. Thankfully, as with the prelude motor, all the engine cables go direct to the ECU. What's even better with the accord is ALL the gearbox and engine cables go in one loom straight to one control unit. This should mean quite a tidy finish.
Not quite that tidy at the moment though:
I've managed to move the key reader for the immobiliser to next to the ECU. I've removed one complete fuse box. The other is supplying the fuel pump (will be on its own supply in the truck) and the 'IG COIL'. I've yet to find exactly how it supplies it thanks to the lack of a drawing. No biggy though.
When it's in the truck I'll probably rewire the truck anyway to tidy everything up. Just need supplies to ECU, engine sensors and a starter signal. I'll link up the fault lights to the overhead lamps I have spare.
With the wiring roughly sorted I've started pulling the motor out. I've already removed the exhausts, driveshafts, mount bolts, gear linkage - basically everything from underneath. I pulled the rad this evening and now there's plenty of room to get to the remaining mounts. First job tomorrow is to haul it out and weigh it. Once it's out I'll probably strip anything that's unrequired and commence pulling the H22 out...[/img]

Well there were some mixed successes today. This morning I pulled the V6 out. It looks a good compact motor with little wasted space. Measuring it up it still looked as if it was going to be tight but I was confident it would fit.
Next the 2.2 came out. Took us a few hours - it's not been out for a long while now so it took a little remembering what order to do things. When taking it out I found 2 engine mounts in poor condition (1 was knackered!).
V6 and 2.2
Next we tried a test fitting. The engine itself fit very nicely in the hole.
Unfortunately though, all things weren't as rosy with the rear prop. When positioning the engine it soon became clear it was going to have to sit higher as the rear axle mount wouldn't line up with with a recess. Combined with the gearbox being at the rear now rather than the front, there just doesn't seem to be enough room to get a good rear prop in.
It's not particularly clear here but you get the idea.
To be fair, it was always going to be a bit of a gamble whether a bigger engine which was the opposite way around was ever going to fit in there. The simple answer.... no Looks like we're staying with a 2.2 for now.
So tomorrow the job of putting it back in, and making a couple of new engine mounts starts.
I'm just going to have to find another job for the V6

Got the engine sat back in its place. Whilst looking and pondering we had a bit of a shuffle to see if it could be mounted in a more optimum position.
A bit of pushing and shoving later the engine is now approx an inch further forward and to the left. This will ease the angles on both props. With the rear prop being the achilles heel, any improvement is a good thing!
Movement of the old engine mount to the new position:
With the engine in the new position I've knocked up 4 new engine mounts. I've utilised the original mount for 3 of them as the mounting faces on the gearbox weren't the easiest to replicate. I think they've come out reasonably tidy though.
Space wise they should also allow a lot more room around the engine. I'm using poly bushes meant for a lard rover panard rod. I know, it's LR but it is aftermarket lard rover so hopefully they're not made of cheese.
Once the engines back in I'll be mounting my Fandango new intermediate bearing from Milner offfroad, moving the front prop bearing and rejoining the exhaust. I've had to cut it in half as there wasn't enough room now the engines moved.
