Well it looks like its time to fit my SU carb to my sj.
Its a Hif44 SU with adaptor both sides, should arrive next day or 2.
Question:
Is there anyone local to Liverpool that can fit and set it up?
It is an Sj with a 8v 1600 Vit engine in.
The SU thats arriving has just come off the same engine and was all running sound so i assume it has the correct needle and spring in.
If you can help or know anyone that can i will obviously pay for the work involved, hope to have this done for the next Wigan play day.

Thanks Steve.

Dead easy to do,Remove old carb, bolt su on with new gasket on manifold, turn engine till fuel gets through and engine fires. If it's come from a simalar engine it should be about right mixture.just tweak idle to suit.Mine runs ok when cool but when it's hot it idles about 1800,I can't get it down after 2 years of tinkering.

What needle are you running ? I'm using the bbz for my su . Found the bfm to be a bit rich in fuel .

Didn't change the needle, changed the spring to try and get the idle to drop.Mines a Hif6 from a rover v8,one of a pair,3.5 ltr divded by 2=1750 so mines a 1600 bout right needle size, can run a bit rich, but had it through mot twice and both times being told it's too weak. After tweaking it down for mot,and the old argument about it should have a cat. Most do to change the needle though I may get a weak one.
