|
|
|
I have been offered some waste veg oil from a friends cafe, what do i need to do to it to make my 300tdi run on it?
One of my customers tells me to filter it and half and half it with derv and i should be ok? Don't know enough to be brave on this one and can do without another fault on the landy to fix. don't like to see waste oil going begging if i can use it and save a few quid at the same time. Help please.

I used to use it in a Discovery just by letting it sit for at least 7 days then syphoning it off the top straight into the tank...
Never filtered or heated it in any way.
never had any probs using 100% oil in the summertime, was a bit harder to start in winter so I used to mix a little diesel into it.
If its a "bacon rolls, burgers and chips" cafe there might be a lot of solid SPAM in it.
Indian takeaway was the best oil I ever used

Cheers for that i think it's mostly from the chip fryers i'll pick some up and let it stand for a bit and see what settles, i don't mind running mixed if it makes it easier to burn

i filter mine down to 1 micron and just use the topp oil after its been sat for a while , mix it with diesel ,the amout of oil to diesel is dependant on the weather , if it starts to loose power add more diesel untill its back to what it was .

Don't forget to do very regular engine oil and filters (3000 miles was when my oil smelt like WVO)
The WVO washes past the piston rings as does SVO.
I used to use SVO and diesel mix as the oil seals don't get attacked so much. SVO gets acidic when it's used in cooking turning it into WVO.

Sorry for being stupid but whats svo? Also i have some paint filters from a mate with a car repair place i think they are fine enough. I do regular oil and filters anyway about every three to four thousand miles as she's getting up in the miles these days and like to look after her a bit

Thanks ged, looks a little bit more than i was led to believe some serious thought required i don't do massive miles in the landy so may not be worth the effort i only use a tank every month or so as it's not my main drive.
Cheers again

Then scale it down. Three filters inside each other, one drum and leave to settle.
Simples

but the same rules apply. you must filter below the cars onboard fuel filter, and you must give it time to settle any whites out.
