There was a few that showed an interest at some pics I put up so I though I would do a bit of a bulid thread.
Quick mockup to show the basic layout and yes the seats will be slightly staggered to keep the cockpit as narrow as possible.
The engine is a Volvo T5R turbo chipped to 340bhp with about 40% torque increase mated to and asian ecu controlled auto that will have the diff spooled (no transfer box) so it will be diff output to diff input . The one in the pic is just a scrapper to build around and will go back to the breakers as it's on loan.
The diffs are audi flavour. front is s2 avant rear is 100 avant, these have to luxury of being fitted with lockers from the factory and can take big hp. Both have been retro fitted with A8 V8 torsen centres so they give the best of both. The ratios are 4.2:1 and I also have the choice of a set with 3.7:1 if I'm going somewhere that needs a little more top end speed.
Hubs all round are Merc items and cvs are all GKN.
In this pic you can see the the front end drive layout. I've placed a Yota cv on the left for a size comparison.
If you havn't already noticed the front will have 5 cv's in total. The one on the right of the diff has it's rotational Center set in the dead midle. The diff will pivot up and down with the left suspension at a ratio of 2:1 and the short shaft on the right side will mirror the diff for the right hand side. The idea is to have big travel without putting the cv's at silly angles as there the angles will be shared between the cv's. Most ifs builder look for the narrowist diff they can find to aid cv angles , all im doing is effectively integrating the diff into the left drive shaft so the diff width is effectively zero.
Please don't ask me to explain it in to much detail as it will become clear as the suspension comes together.
The wheels were ex press from the Weller factory supplied without centres. as you can see stacked up in the pic I had the centers laser cut then drilled them to the Merc pcd and taper cut the holes.
Shocks are fox remote red as you can see. They will be supplemented with a set bilstien remote res on slapper arms that kick in a couple of inches before full jounce.
A few more pics that kind of speak for them selves.
All for now back soon.

Body! What body kind of decided but it's not set in stone yet. Think lancia stratos and you won't be far away, well as close as the msa rules will let me.

i seen pics that do that XD, usually in rockwatt's threads that involve him welding something, that peice Coil conversion he did recently being one of them..
if i could weld (at all) even half as good as that i would be a happy man.. ideas in my mind, skills not in my hand lol,

secound that
rich the last thing you want in a build thread is lots of
"looking good"
"nice build"
and so on as it just makes the build thread long and boring to read and your work is anything but that
as you have said about msa regs i take it you will be racing this one??
and in what series??

I think it's to late for that it's already turned into a "rizla 2" & "crawler buggy" style chat room
But that's ok with me I like to hear what people have to say as you do get the odd bit of good advise thrown in.

It's geared for 70mph and I might want to accelerate to 72mph and time travel off into the future leaving burning tire tracks. But I might run the risk of creating an alternate universe and maybe destroy the world as we know it so I might just stick with the 4.2 diffs !

You should have popped round and said hello!
Dead line is 5 months ! It's one of those things though it depends what comes up.

are you using the audi diffs like a torque tube and having them moving up and down aswell as the indi bit or you just keeping diff fixed and have the indipendant suspension built to the cage

Yes Tris the diff will pivot with the passenger side lower wish bone and the short shaft on the drivers side will pivot with the drivers side lower wishbone.
Just for you parrot an exaggerated mock up of the front end, the pole that's propped up shows the centre line and the point where the centre will pivot. And the second set of cv's with have bearing careers and will pivot with the lower wish bones on cantilever links.
Hope that explains it a bit better ! If not then you will just have to wait
Weld slugs pressed out and bearings pressed in.
Wheel centres tacked in for alignment.
And just for comparison the top cv is a merc item that I'm using and the bottom one is a yota cruiser item.
Next job is make a jig to build the front suspension.
Back soon.
