Well my vit is idling a little lumpy, timing is spot on, oil is fresh and has fresh plugs, also the dizzy cap and rotor are good and fixed well and there is no moisture

i am thinking maybe i have a dirty injector.. would you reccomend first trying an "in fuel addative" (off the shelf injection cleaning kit from motorfactors) or actually stripping it down and cleaning it "properly" first... obviously i am looking at cost and time over ease here...

fuel addative worth a try?

I'd try the additive first it doesnt cost much really and can do no harm.If it doesnt work you're only down a couple of quid.

I have moved it to here where hopefully it will be seen by more people.

It was repoted by another member that this thread was turning a bit ugly. Please keep it friendly and constructive and if there are any problems leave it to the moda and hit the report button rather than getting into an argument.

Regards

Colin.

Did you gap the new plugs correctly, they should be set to 28thou. The fuel filter is unlikely to affect idle it would cut out when under load. Have the valve clearances been checked? Can you get hold of a compression tester, its always good to check that the engine is sound before trying to fault find.
Any cracks in the exhaust manifold? any leaks between the head and the catalytic converter?
Dirty injectors aren't that common, On the 8V there is a filter with a very fine mesh around the injector but blockages would cause the same symptoms as a bad fuel filter, ie cutting under load.

Have you tried cleaning the idle control valve? Probably worth a try, they normally get gummed up, and end up sticking.

the mother-in-laws polo was doing the same so i removed the air intake off the top of the SPI, unplugged the coil and sprayed s**tloads of carb cleaner down the into the inlet, turned the engine over for about 10 sec's then sprayed a load more down and it ran fine after that.

just remember to leave it for 10-15mins after you've sprayed for the carb cleaner to evaporate before actually starting it

I've taken a set of injectors for flow testing cleaning before, cost me about £50, imo you're ******* in the wind with in tank cleaner.

(you can get those little ultrasonic cleaners on ebay and rig up your own flow tester if you have the time)
