Just changed the oil in transfer box on my 300tdi disco auto , I`m sure someone said it was about 3 litres , but I can only get 2 litres in before it starts trickling out , is 2 litres about right then , sorry its a 95 aswell.

Unless you have oil that runs uphill on its own then when it trickles out of the filler/level hole then it is full - that's why it's called a filler/level hole. The only way to get more in is to lay the car on its' side.

Transfer boxes are unlikely to get loads of gunge and goo in the bottom like engines, so if you drianed all of the old stuff out and filled to the level hole then it is full. BTW, fully synthetic oil all round makes a difference for the better.

thank you for your words of wisdom , I do know what the level plug is for , just thought 2 litres was not the right amount .

Yea, but it was late and the whiskey was glowing.

Found my Haynes manual and it says: up to suffix D 2.3 litres, from suffix E 2.8 litres. But knowing Haynes I would rather trust the filler hole.
