Bought this for free to get back into Off roading. If all goes well it will be stripped and built again if I enjoy being back in the mud.

Waffle boards pop out and slide right out the back although since the pics I have cut another foot off the back . Bends arent sleeved, TBH not something I thought about. I have thought however about Bracing them from the outside with some flat bar. This is the first cage I have built and I plan on Taking this one back off anyway and building one properly with the proper steel and bender.
No-one I spoke to told me to sleeve them but to just leave a tiny gap so I get a good weld. This is the first thing I have done like this so all taken on board and any other comments/advice would be great.

when I looked closer I worked out the waffles!

didn't mean any offence with the comment, but I would be worried calling it a proper roll cage, the design and lines look great Cool but for proper structure to protect you im not convinced it wouldn't break at the joins Confused for tree/rock sliders/damage protection I don't see any problem at all, and the body has some roll protection built in! its all down to what are you planning for how you're going to use the truck?

Looking awesome some nice work there like the waffle board and the light bar across the top looks Cool can't wait to see a video off it ploughing through some ruts can't s anything wrong with the cage looks a lot stronger than a lot I have seen as long as it's a nice wall thickness then will be gd

No Offence Taken. Lifes a learning curve, U put your comment in a decent manner and never slated it mate. To Start with I aint doing anything too extreme, but within time This cage will be used as a rough template for a proper pucka one. The whinches are just cheapos and will be upgraded too, Got a mini lobster on it the now that will be a Full Rocklobster soon enough too. Wheel centres were cut and moved too to give a wider stance. The cage has a 3mm wall thickness. Done a wee bit more to it last night replacing the rear floor

^^^^ this...

We didn't even get them in the States, so you either have to import an old one (25 years+) or build one from a SWB...

We don't get Simex or Fedima tires/tyres either, but I can live with that Very Happy

looking Cool I like the recess in the rear panel for your winch.

what did you use to cut the welds in the wheels for moving the centers? got access to a big lathe? or did you grind them out? and technique for getting them true before welding back in? (got a similar job to do and just looking for ideas)

Just ground them out, left a few cut marks though that Im gonna weld up and buff down. To get them true welll emmmm My mate done that part and I didnt watch Him, sure it involved a flat surface and a measure tape. I have no idea how true they are running as it aint been on the road yet but at low speeds it seems fine for now. My long term plans if I cant get them running True will be a set of Mach 5 style wheels anyway, although I really like the look of these so Hoping I can make them work. I impressed myself with my little reccess at the whinch, was awfy chuffed haha Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Shakedown session 1 successfull. Nothing broken, only a few things needing tinkering and some paint. The little thing performed just nicely and im Uber surprised at how well the cheapo whinches worked

Whinches are just cheapos from Ebay, Slow and noisy but so far are doing a bloody good job. Tyres are Malatesta Kaimans. everything else you see was made up as I went along. I think the overall length has change a few times. Its going for its first proper playday soon so then I can start to see what Mods it will need next Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
