hi
need some help, my v8 90 on carbs keeps cutting out on lpg. i can be driving along normally and i will hear the solenoid in the tank behind me click and the engine will cut out. sometimes i can turn the ignition off and back on again, the solenoid with click and it will fire, other times it wont click and it wont start sometimes if i switch to petrol, not actually running on petrol, and then back to lpg quickly the solenoid will open and it will click and fire.
all the connections on the mixer/vapouriser/ tank solenoids are clean dry and tight, ive tried to look for other wires, earths etc but i cant seem to find them.
its an intermittent fault but it is getting worse!!
any help would be really appreciated
chris

Almost certainly an electrical fault as you've guessed.
Somewhere there will be earth wires, you do need to find them as it is not unknown for a cruddy eyelet under a self tapper to give problems. Beware of tank solenoid earthed via a tank valve screw or suchlike - not acceptable as the tank should be mounted via rubber/plastic padding, best practice is a seperate earth running to rest of system at front.
Careful check of fuseholders - they get green contacts. Be suspicious of power or earth wiring to battery terminals - easily damaged from battery change or giving/getting jump starts.
Your 'switch' probably has an RPM input (so that it turns off the gas in case of stall), check the RPM source wiring (usually to coil) and consider that the switch's internal RPM sensing circuitry may be poorly.
Wiring to switch may pass through jagged hole in bulkhead or get wrapped around pedal mechs, check throughout its length.
I'll take a long shot and guess there is a nick in the wiring run back to the tank - roadsalt enters and corrodes the copper inside invisibly at this time of year. Very difficult to spot.
I have seen dangly tank wiring swinging against the exhaust pipe and shorting too - "it only fails going uphill on lefthand bends" !

That won't have anything to do with solenoids that don't click.
