independant front suspension with coils, rear live axle with coils, electric rear locker standard on Uk Models
The front end does take some getting used to if you are from the realms of live axles but i have to say once you get there and use the rear locker properly you can get most places, rear end allows plenty of flex which helps greatly
Heres mine

Both of these web sites are a great source of info on the Colorado, and all Landcruisers

I bought a 1997, 130,000 mile, Colorado a few months ago, and as it turned out I bought one with most of the know faults ! Which was a combination of circumstances and me not doing the right checks.
So, I've got a Colly with some surface rust around the back end, it's not rotten like a Disco, but the paint has gone off the chassis and I need to get some underseal and waxoyl on it quick before any holes appear. The rear diff lock doesn't work, it's the £400 actuator that's knackered. I've put a radiator on it - that's compulsory on an auto! One door lock doesn't work, but that's a minor niggle. A previous owner has already changed the hot water pipes to the rear heater, so that's one job off the list. But I also need some suspension bushes and a set of shock absorbers. And I've replaced all the brake pipes, I forgot about that. And I've replaced the starter solenoid contacts.
That's it.....I think.
I paid a lot more for it than a Disco of the same age and mileage, but it's in a different league. I've broken up Disco's of that age and the Colorado is a far better built 4x4 in my opinion. But like everything, it has it's weak points.
I'll spend the money and get it right, because I love it

hi i am a big fan of 4.2 nissan patrols but i have just bought a 1997 swb colorado and im hugely impressed with it where i thought the 6 pot 4.2 had masses of torque i have just towed a lwb 4.2 diesel patrol back on my trailer which i estimate weighs about 3.2 tonnes 400 miles with ease i was worried about the lc being able to handle the weight but it was no problem to it where my foot is to the floor in a patrol i was having to easr off in the lc only problems on mine are chips in windscreen and some scuffs on the bumpers

You need to update your profile Steven, it says you drive a vitara.
Having laned with Steven a few times I can testify how good his red swb 90 is off road. It has gone every where my 70 has gone, up and down the most challenging lanes we can find.
And after our weekends away wild camping and laning Steven is able to cruise home at motorway speeds in comfort!
Great vehicles IMHO!

Steven

would like to add one to my new toy swblandcruiser.blogspot.co.uk (my profile is wrong too it has the old car). Have you any details / photos as to how you fitted it?

That's a very detailed thread and excellent photos. I now have a good pattern to follow. What thickness metal was the fence post? Was the angle steel you used on the chassis rails the same thickness?
Thanks again for all the info.
