If you make your steel pipe work match the existing hoses, then at least the rubberwork is easy to replace
If you mount it low its best to have a few inches floor clearance so it has room to clear leaves. Hawthron suck in real easy. A good air box makes the whole rad work hard. Two fans require an air dam between them incase one fails.
Air comes out like smoke rings in that it travels distance. So you need the exit to point out of the vehicle. If it does this there is less chance of hot air getting sucked back into the rad
Designing by the scientific view that hot air rises is a good way to get a good rad set up.
I trapped my rad between the two air boxes by their foam seals. Hopefully this lets the rad move around safely without stress?
Having two expansion tanks works well as long as you check both regularly!
Some folks say to use rubber hose throughout, but I believe that steel or copper where ever you can helps cooling

I've chased many a bench around the workshops of my employers over the years
But 1800kg truck ain't going far
Bit of 50x50 on the chassis, bit of 40x40 on the vice for a socket. Its a 5-star 'there I fixed it'

cheers guys, iv got the 28mm hose and im using copper pipe, im running the pipe through the cab as its easy, less chance of damage and iv got no heater in the cab so itll keep me warm in the cold weather, lol, im going to lagg it for safety though, so as long as i keep the rad low down and the expansion tank higher up thats the basics, then run the cooling fan/fans off it, whats the best type of thermostate to fit as all the electrics have been stripped out

This is how i did my rear rad. I used some aluminium pipe inside the cab and did the rest in reinforced rubber pipe so it dont collapse when you bend it. I also added a electric water pump as the std pump aint always man enough to move the water around when its on tick over. I used an all alloy rad off e-bay for a pug 206, i think it was only about £50.

2WAB is very well built, but thats some handy vision gone to that side rad? I'd miss it. But on a truck that tight, I guess the rad has to be there.
Nearer the back and out in the open like above gets more air to the rad. And the above setup can be improved by fitting a fan-box / duct to make all the rad have air flow and work harder. But any fan metal work takes up more depth, as it adds 100mm to be any use
A lot of compers have a top rad with over-cab ducting which removes all rear visability. I run a low rad, but at speed with a windscreen that might give trouble. So one guy had a low rad with 2 back windows like double glazing, but with a big gap. That gave him rear visability and over-cab air flow. It was very clever, neat, simple, and I've never seen it copied
I can't get any luck on your photo. Its just blobs of colour

Not liking the idea below at all!
The amount of times I've bashed my truck where that cooler on the side is!

Old people aye,
no idea how to build a truck to really use, they should always refer to the young smart phone generation to get things done properly!!
Tony maybe doesnt use it as hard or in the extreme places as you use yours,
or maybe it is the guard thats fitted that gives the protection.
Maybe he just doesnt go any place where there are tree branches!

I think I'd also be worried about if you rolled it over and landed on something like a rock or a tree stump

yea I agree twiss looks a tad vulnerable to me, if it is used for trials and such though it probably wont be subject to that sort of damage, I would fancy it on greenlanes though, some of the tighter ones I have been down have clawed along the rear windows and would have ripped most of the cooling vanes off that rad!

That is at least 2 of you that dont appear to notice that the cooling fins are behind a screen,
of which you do not know what the material is that it is made of.
It is a purpose built 1 off challenge truck,
built for and competing at the highest standard of events for over 3 years, without falling on stumps or pierced coolers to my limited knowledge.
Gets into some slightly tighter spaces than you are liable to find in a UK green lane, obviously not as compact & able as a Zook tho.

I did notice the cooler screen George, but it looks about the same thickness as my frying pan spit guard.
Yes it could be made of good material, but it's going to be weaker than a shell side panel, especially where it's attached to the cage
It looks good and I'm sure it's great for the purpose it was built for.
I'm just saying it would be pointless for what I do. My mate who used to have a van SJ regularly dented the side panels on trees.
I got winch recovered once at slindon and got dragged into a tree
(it was literally the only way it was coming out of the hole!)
The tree was right where that cooler is
I personally don't really care about body work so am not so bothered about leaning the SJ against a tree to get round an obstacle...

I get your points & they are very valid.
I dont think any materials from kitchen SPAM retaining devices were donated
in the making of that vehicle.
(Maybe to keep the price down since it is so low budget the odd Cooker hood extractor fan was used in it design tho.)

Yeah I think if I did a rear rad I would follow dunk's idea...
Nice and protected inside the back there!
