All,

We replaced the top pins in one of the kingpins, but after only a few miles the new O rings had gone (cut). We fitted them onto the wheel half of the kingpin and then fitted it over the axle side. Was this the wrong way round? Any other top tips?

jim

Jim,
Normally, those O rings sit in a small recess, when I rebuilt my kingpins, I held them inplace with a lump of grease. If yours is cut, it may have slipped out of place when you were assembling it?
Also, have you checked the lower bearing, if this is worn, the wheel half of the kingpin will sit too high - putting too much pressure on the top O ring!

regards Mike

Which part of the knuckle is the recess on?

We haven't measured the thickness of the bottom bearing, but the bottom side is all in good condition, and appears to always have been greased. I didn't notice the acceptable range of thickness being in any of the manuals - is it there?

ta,

jim
