hi
thanks for the help putting me in touch with Rob of ART.
am wondering what your opinion is on the possible reasons this part has broken. yes it was wheeled rough, and there is modification to the stock suspension set up for more articulation.... but what gets me intrigued is that i found another standard mog 404 with the same broken shaft and housing in almost the same place.
would be interested to know your thoughts....also i want to avoid this happening again....

Ive got no idea why that would break there because it is a tough old bird! Only thing is............is that heat discolouration on the paint at that point?

The torque from all of the suspension is rotating around that point. I've never seen one break, but makes sence that it's the weak spot. Is the casting narrower at the beginning of that flair than where the torque tube / pinion attaches?

thats a nasty crack (dont think thats heat discolouration more like loss of oil)
you might find its binding on the gear box swivvel(because the are shaped to allow clearance for the prop) and because your trying to get more articulation its twisting the tube(because thats steel it will break the cast part first)
some pics of how much it articulates would be good

thanks! it is baffling....i agree it would be the weak point...but one from a standard mog and one from a modified suspension set up ...same breakage? (they werent both by me!!!!!)
the modification isnt as crazy as some i have seen...its basically coil springs from a box Prado and the relocation cones...the full extension of the shock absorber is 34 inches....they are of a mercedes actros truck...
