All I know is only buy merc ones, they will last many years compaired to the other replacements.
The 404 ones dont look that hard to change since they bolt together.

Just bolts and Jubilee clips hold it on, use a lot of WD40 (other brands of lubricant are available) to loosen the clips and origional Mog gaiters (other brands are available but are crap and perish within a matter of months).

the original ones are a one piece unit and you have to strip down the tube from the box to remove and change them but i think you can get the split and bolt together ones to fit the later axles

Are 406 ones different than the 404 then?
These are original 404 ones.
and according to euro-truck, these are original 406 ones.

the actual torque tube is larger than the 404 tube but the collar that bolts the tube to the gearbox is very similar

My perished gaiters are one piece and the manual refers to hauling the axles away from the box to allow fitting of the new ones. Hence this post.
Seeing those split gaiters has made my day. Thank you.
