Hi All,
I am in the process of organising a complete PTO system for my 404.
The snag is I need to know the length of the front drive shaft. The person I am getting it from has 2 shafts but does not know which one is the front.
Would someone be kind enough to measure one of theres and let me know.
It will be either 1.2 meters or 1.4 meters long.
Thanks
Bryan

Hi All.
The PTO unit which arrived this week is not for a 404 but a 406 / 421 model.
So if anyone needs a very good condition PTO for theres let me know.
This type lets you engage / disengage the PTO unit and then select either the front/rear/or both PTO outputs.
I would like around £200 for the box and am happy to send anywhere in the UK for around £40 (item is heavy)
The front drive shaft is not included.

Hi Mike
It fits the hole in the box but will not mesh with the gears. It is a real shame as I would of loved to have been able to select the outputs.
The person I bought the kit from has been great, He is sending me another box to fit my 404 at no cost. Plus he has asked me to sell this one on rather then send it back to him
Still not sure about the turner winches I have. I was originally going to fit them both on my Mog. But after putting one on the front it locks a bit on the small side.
So if anyone can point me in the direction of a alternative mechanical PTO winch that would be great.

Ive got a Turner winch buried somewhere but I think it was a bit of a monster! Came off a Commer Q4 I think. I will dig it out and measure / photograph if you want? I was going to fit a hydraulic unit for the rear.
Phil

Ref. winches, I bought an old Braden winch about a year or so ago. Decided I didn't want to add any more weight to the already nose heavy mog. So fitted it under the bed. Mine is hydraulic, but like most winches they can easily be converted to pto drive if required.
At the moment the cable just runs out to the rear, but I think with a bit of time and some rollers, the cable could be sent out to the front through the pto hole

Neat looking winch - what is it rated at? What was a Braden winch fitted to? I have a front roller fairlead fitted beneath my front bumper, so Im guessing that my Mog either had or was intending to have a cable going forward from a rear winch!

Its rated at 10 ton, I don't know that much about them. I bought it on ebay from a farmer who had it on the front of his tractor for dragging trees about! Think Braden are based in the US.
I still need to change my hyd pump, as the winch is painfully slow, but thats another job!

The 2 turner winches I have are both the same. One has the fair lead the other is missing but was thinking of fitting one in the rear and one on the front.
I would be interested in seeing your turner winch phil.
just think mine look a bit on the small side.

On the 404 PTO front.........I have recently bought a 404 to break and I was quite excited with the included selectable PTO - See pics. Unfortunately although it is obviously Mog, it is not 404. The front mounting holes are the same, but the body overall is too long by about 40mm. It is very heavy and bigger flanges than my std 404 one - any ideas what it is off?
On my breaker I want the axles and transmission, it has a good cab and some really odd stuff like a heated battery box. I will list it here before e..ay - so contact me if you want anything and I will suss it out?

Looks like a 406 one? What's the chance of you selling one of the output flanges from that pto box

its off the later g series box(i think thats the name) found in the 421 upwards box with the taper bearings not the bushing
was it a 404 you got as a breaker or a 421 snow plough/blower with you saying it had the heated battery box it might even have the hydro assist steering with hydraulic pump

The 404 pto box has a lever which comes up through the top of the main shifter mechanism. That's the same style as the 406 (421?) which has the lever directly attached to the PTO box.

The breaker is a 1965 404 with all the trailer air brake pipes/tanks/actuators etc. there is this big cylindrical thing in the chassis which I presume heats the battery box? The battery box has some S shape pipes snaking through it. This heat exchanger has only 3 connections - rad water in and water out plus one other...........bit odd? and the battery box pipe ends open at the outside. cant quite figure that out yet?
Id like to help with the flange DX but Id better keep it complete and see if I can get a 404 one or sell it to finance one?

sounds like the same as my heated battery box. the box has a water pipe, heat exchanger pipe for the swingfire pre heater and the exhaust gases are piped through it.
Very complex system.

That sounds about right - very complex! Unfortunately I dont have the swingfire heater though...........wondered what was missing!
All of that stuff is up for grabs as Im breaking the Mog - Im keeping the axles and transmission but there is an awful lot of standard Mog stuff that needs a new home - including a very good complete cab (see ads) an engine, westinghouse compressor, battery boxes, tanks steering and a set of Mog 404 wheels with 12 x 20 bar grips.
DX - there are a couple of side screens - really only frames! but I would like to sell the cab as one lump complete with these?

This is the Turner that I have. The drum is about 13" across and I think it was from a Commer truck. Chassis mounted and driven from the PTO - have you made any progress with mounting your winches V8?

Not had any luck with mounting my winch, I have done all the drawings for the mounts but have been tied up with our military show. Just got back from spending a week playing with my Mog It was great got some excellent articulation in the tank holes
Will post some photos of my winch mount once they have been made.
