Hiya we are hoping to go to Spain later on in the year, the plan is to go into the Pyrenees starting from the French side of the Viehla tunnel for a few days then travel down towards Barcelona for the Landrover Party in October spend three or four days down there and then make our way home, We may be being a little ambitious with the planning taking into consideration tHat there will be two adults three dogs and a load of camping gear in a swb 90 but who cares? Can any one suggest some good maps of the Pyrenees? I've just got the Rough Guide to the Pyrenees I also need a new Sat Nav as my old one has decided to give up the ghost thats another area where I need some advice which one to go for?

Hi,
Maps; rough guide is excellent, also try to get michelin 343/344 1:150 000 for the French side and the 574 1:400 000 for the Spanish side.
Satnav; copilot is excellent on a pda or garmin (but sure whatever you get is full street level European mapping not an MR & I (Major Routes & Ireland) version.
GPS; for tracks look at http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/home.do loads of tracks/scenic routes here, sign for a free account and download to a mappable garmin device or similar.
This is an excellent track between Andorra/Spain also know as the smugglers route; http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=540200
Camping; there's loads of campsites about but this site is excellent. http://www.eurocampings.co.uk/en/europe/
Cheers Mark

We also have the Cool Camping Guides for Europe and I've recently bought the French one,

Hiya Kev sorry for the delay in replying, check out this link, http://www.landroverparty.com
It seems expensive but as it was going to be part of our holiday we considered it to be worth while,
There are a few interesting video's to watch on the web site
Unfortunatley I've just been made redundant and if I don't get a job in the next few weeks we will have to put the trip off untill next year,
Barry

Hiya Kev great to hear that you made the trip, I'll certainly check out the web site.
Yes I managed to find employment and for a change it's not far from home we are still planning on making the trip next year.

Just picked up this thread.
About 2 years ago we went on holiday to Barcelona, in 3 days we had done all the important things there and got in the hire car and drove. ended up in the mountains, saw 6 bearded vultures (the bone breakers) circling overhead, found our way into Andorra and the french ski runs before coming down to Montserrat. took three days to do the trip and absolutely loved it!
would recommend the journey to anyone and am pleased to hear your doing it in a landy! best of luck!

I can recommend eurocampings/ACSI. We got the ACSI CD ROM a year or so ago and take it on the laptop when ever on the road.
It gives full listings of campsites, pictures, facilities, route planner and most importantly it has an E Mail facility to book campsites in the local/regional language. So far we have used it successfully in: Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, France, Germany and even the UK.
We found that when travelling independently with only an outline route plan that we could adjust our travel plans as required on the laptop and then the laptop told the satnav where to go. It works - as we found out at 2330 one night in torrential rain in the middle of Germany!
The ACSI members card (if you join them) also gives you discounts all over Europe.
