Hi All,
basically as you all know I along with my navigator Ian Culbert are competing in the Macmillan 4x4 UK Challenge in early March. The event covers approx 1000 miles with plenty more just getting to and from the start line and the various stages.
We do not take ANY of the money you donate for expences and fund the event out of our own pockets. This year however with the highest diesel prices ever we would really appreciate some help with fuel costs. I realise times are hard for everyone and every penny counts.
If you are a company who may be able to assist we will obviously be more than willing to affix any signage to the Team Chaos Discovery, and publish your support via our facebook pages and our website.
I know it is a longshot but please, if possible, can you please help us to help others.
you can contact me via pm on here or my email address which is
colinbatchelor@hotmail.com
I wouldnt normaly ask as the members on this site are more than generous, but with diesel at an all time high we could really do with some assistance.
Best wishes
Colin.

ok, if for instance i knew where there was a load of veg, and that it was possibly for sale, if we all chipped in we could buy it and get it ready.........
team chaos goes green........
we could "sell" it by the litre as sponsorship.
people could donate the equivalent of the cost in litres thereby "buying" your fuel
eg, if we get it for 50ppl, someone could donate £20, effectively buying you 40 litres.
now, all we need is someone with loads of veg oil...............................

I cant do much financially or indeed with the supply of veg
But im more than happy to offer my services to help convert and maintain the efficient and safe running of the Chaos 300's on their new diet.
Have you tried diesel veg the company, their conversion kits arent cheap but they are the best around. Im in no way connnected to them i just love what they do and how they do it.
As most of you know ive run my 300's for many years on the stuff and i think ( touch wood ) if covered just about all the pitfalls by now.
Ive also helped with the introduction to a growing number of people to the way of life.
and FWIW i think the switch to veggy motoring is both sensible and exciting for team chaos.

Hi Guys,
wow what a discussion and plenty to think about. I am confused on what to do. The thing is that we dont know where we will be going and we wont have enough room to carry veg oil in the vehicle. At the moment there is no way I can afford to have the Team Chaos Disco converted but possibly in the future and I agree it would be a sensible thing to do.
Ged has put forward a very interesting idea which I will have to give serious consideration to.
Many thanks for the replies.
Colin (wont sleep now as mind racing through ideas) B

how much converting does it take?
Does it need a twin tank setup?
only i converted my car by opening the filler cap and pouring it in, so i dont know.
do you not have a support vehicle colin?

in theory no. a 300 will run cold veggy on a single tank, or most mixes
but CAVEAT EMPTOR , its not a recommended solution.
in fact id swear my unconverted defender loved olive oil so much i huffed when i went back to diesel...
the night i crashed it i had run out of veg so i filled it with diesel. ( yes i no im insane )

Hi,
sorry for the lateness of my reply. I think conservative estimate will be around 1500 + miles inc travelling to and from the event. I would estimate my fuel consumption at around 24mpg which is around 60 gallons. Around here it is about 1.32 per litre which means fuel costs of about £360 (if my maths is right). I know it is not a fortune but unlike past years I cannot really afford to donate that money myself at the moment owing to personal situations.
Best wishes
Colin.

carry 4 20 litres veggies in the back 540 miles range, fill the main tank 450 miles
and find a cash and carry enroute to restock.
i know space in the wagon is at a premium but its possible with new oil and 70 ppl.

Patterson Electronics will be donating some diesel money (so long as I remember the Compnay credit card!). Unfortunately it won't be a large amount as I can hardly afford to fill the Company vehicles at the minute.

Hi All,
thank you to the people and companies who have donated, they really have made a difference. However we are still somewhat short of our target. Please, if you know any company that may wish to help out can you please ask them or ask them to send me an email etc.
I know it is a cheek asking like this and we have never done this before but as we all know money is tight for everyone and petrol prices are 'dissapointing' to say the least.
Many, many thanks for your continued support, it really does make a huge difference.
Best wishes
Colin.
