Hi all
so just got myself a project off roader.
basically this one.. http://forum.difflock.com/ads_item.php?id=12321
there has been some wiring done in the past.
what i need to know so i can create a how-to is i want to make my own wiring harness.
what is essential for getting and keeping the engine, gearbox and transfer box going?
it is a 1.3 carbed with im unsure what type of choke as its been cable tied full open Rolling Eyes
its starts and runs (hard to start but i think thats due to the boat fuel tank or the choke being wide open. looking at the wiring diagram what can be removed and what needs to be kept?

Hi & welcome to difflock Smile .

Not sure about the wiring. If it's just an offroader will you still want lights?
How about dashboard? keep the oil pressure and charge lights. Wipers still on the stalk or just panel switch, washers?.
A light to show 4wd maybe. Heater?. Temperature gauge?

The choice is yours!!
Cheers - Darrell.

well theres no lights, no dash and no warning lights. theres a fuse board not a fuse box with a small type of ecu behind it. do i need that black ecu thingy? may have to get a pic..
i do want...
a working engine
voltmeter gauge
engine temp gauge
oil pressure gauge
possible fuel gauge at some point
wipers still on stalk at the mo,
would like a light to tell if im in 4wd if possible.
will have spots and working lights at some point

what i mostly need to know is what important things still need to be attached to the engine for it to work,
starter motor-yes
alternator-yes
start solinoid and dizzy-yes
any fuel stop solinoids need connecting or anything else?
can throw my hand at most things but getting a keeping an engine going electrical wise i get all confused.com
Confused

heater has been taken out but im currently making one.
never had an sj so dont know what was in it or what it looked like when it was standard so kind of thrown myself in at the deep end Rolling Eyes

Well this crappy diagram Embarassed would get it starting/running/charging. I have marked the original wire colours in case you use any. The cable from the alternator to battery would need to be large enough to carry the charge ampage. Well it's a start Smile .

And some more info

WOW. YOU THE MAN Darrell
thats exactely what i was after. soo much easier to understand then there wiring diagrams Embarassed
yes they will be aftermarket ones or if i feel like upgrading the defender ones i will use landrover ones in the sj. they are simple with 2 wires i think.... Confused
the dash at the moment is a little bit of metal plate so im going to rip that out and possibly fabricate a new full size dash plate and mount all switches and gauges and lights in that.
ill get some pics up when i get to see it properly in the light and get myself over into the welcome/garage forum.
is the 4wd drive in or near the gear box or is it on the lever somewhere or do i need to fit one somehow?
sorry for questions cant say ive seen the 4wd switch in the suzuki wiring diagrams Embarassed

Hi, myself and Dunk made this up

I have the diagrams I drew as I wired it up that I can post when I'm back over there at the weekend. Gives you everything you need start, charge, electric fuel pump, electric water pump, rad fan, brake lights, head lights. washers, and wipers.

Like I say I will post up the diagrams for you at the weekend, I might even get round to drawing them up into something on the computer at some point.

If you still have the original wires from the battery to key switch (W/Y) to fuse board (B/BL) keep them. These cables are big enough to handle having a new fusebox put on it to run the extra circuits you will want (some lights, wipers etc). If however you want high wattage lamps these can come straight off the battery via a relay. The little box just above the fuseboard is the indicator relay which won't be needed.
This site has lots of goodies..........

Andy, it took me a day to wire the thing up out of his truck for him, and then another half a day to join it back to the cut down loom we had fitted.

But it's worth every second we spent on it! The spark is so strong now you can here it over the sound of the engine cranking Laughing

I did take a video of what happens when you turn it on for him

Which extra circuits are you after, unlike the diagram from uncle muddy you don't have electric fuelpump, waterpump and radiator fan ---- or do you Wink

Have fun - Darrell.

Any high drain power will come via a relay direct from the battery.
The little fusebox drawing above would do for wipers, brake lights etc..

Sorry Ben,

Only just picked up the diagrams, will try and scan them in later tonight for you.

This should give you everything you need apart from indicators, it all depends on if you are leaving the stick on the steering colum or not. If you give me a couple more clues I can draw them up and post them for you,

UM

no problem
well i have no lights,
its basically the engine
wiper motor
erm thats it
i am concerned about the size cable also.i have a load of 12amp but it looks alot smaller then what is in the vehicle already.
as it is at the moment, it still has what i think is the original fuse board. an actual circuit board type. id like to remove this to get my new fuse holders, kind of like in the picture uncle muddy has.
would like to know...
what engine components need to be fused?
what amp cable?
and if poss some diagrams.thankyou to all so far for your help and thankyou Darrell Wink
oh and before i forget i dont have any relays in the car at all... Confused
