[i]Hi,

My dog's car is a 1998 Peugeot 306 1.9TD Estate.

When I touch the battery EARTH clamp to the battery post, there is a small spark. Intensity of spark can vary.

Everything is switched off, all doors are closed.

Is there a known fault that would cause this?
Or do I have to keep pulling the battery clamp at the end of every journey?

I'm thinking of fitting an isolator switch to the battery post and hacking an access hole in the bonnet. No, I joke, this car has never been welded, passed last two MOTs without advisories, but front tyres are down to 4mm. If it needs money spending, I'll weigh it in ... I mean it's not only French, it's blue. Rolling Eyes

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your answer. I have no idea what you are talking about, so I took the car to a local garage, showed your answer to the mechanic. He said he could fix it, quoted me £200, so I said to go ahead.

The car has 11 months MOT, so too good to scrap. It would cost me more than £200 to replace it, and could be buying something worse. Better the devil you know.

Thanks again.

Why would I feel bad? My car had exactly the same problem a while ago and took it to my local trusty auto tech and he diagnosed the ecu gasket inlet terminal insulation. Must be a part that fails quite often? Sounds like 602 got a bargain as well, my bill was double that...and I got to keep the problem as a little bonus! Very Happy

Hi Mike,

I lied! I've just ordered a battery isolator switch from Ebay, about £5.

There is a Peugeot listed, year younger than mine, looks tidier, apart from dent in the door, only MOT till August, Classified ad, at £195. I think I will starve mine to death.

Yeah, Blitz popped his clogs, rather nasty epileptic fit. We're looking for a replacement from Spain.

Thanks for your support, Ged.

Hi Mike,

I see you joined Difflock in ... er ... yesterday. Very Happy
