Hi , I have a niggling problem with my Terrano and would appreciate any thoughts...
When engine is ticking over and you rev the engine quite briskly there is a flat spot/misfire just for a second between 1500/2000 rpm ,( a lot worse when cold) , when driving you can feel it but on when travelling on a light throttle then accelerating , when driving briskly you don't notice it , any thoughts ? I was thinking dodgy injector ? Confused

taken from the nissan workshop manual

If the engine speed is above 2,700 rpm with no load (for example, in neutral and engine speed over 2,700
rpm) fuel will be cut off after some time. The exact time when the fuel is cut off varies based on engine speed.
Fuel cut will operate until the engine speed reaches 1,500 rpm, then fuel cut is cancelled.

I have exactly the same problem, i take it yours is a 2.7 TDI with Zexel electronic inj pump, 1996 onwards.
I have tried allsorts to cure it, changed fuel lines filters, removed mini filter from pipe banjo union on inj pump, but all to no avail, i did get rid of the flat spot by cleaning the MAF sensor with air intake cleaner, and gently blowing it out, but the misfire at 1500/2000 rpm remains.
Alas, the springs inside the injection pump arm common for breaking up, and this is one of the symptons. mine has 145,000 on the clock and ive lived with the missfire for over a 12 month now, ill wait till it gets worse before i do something about it.

As Ivor has previously mentioned, just check yours has a Zexel fuel pump...An easy tell is to see what 'brand' your MAF is; if it says Hitachi it's got a Zexel.

If it does turn out to be a Zexel pump, it's most probably got a the same issue mine had. For the last two years, my Mav had similar symptoms: a slight mis/lurching between 1400-1700rpm but only while cruising under load. It has gradually got worse until a couple of weeks ago when I decided to swap it. I spent a couple of days switching injection pumps and the problem appears to have gone away.

I don't want to scaremonger so before you go full on into an injection pump swap, make sure you have checked all the basics ie filters and electronic sensors. Good luck!
