As some of you may know, I'm building a truck for next years Ladoga Trophy. Due to the nature of the event and the distances involved reliable communication is essential.
For the event I will need 2 CB radios. One for the Comp truck and one for the Service Truck.
Jez has suggested that I need the following:
SIRF 3 antennas,(a what?)
200W + amps for the CB, (Didn't realize they made them that powerful)
80 channel CB.
As a complete CB Muppet, where is the best (read Cheapest) place to get the above as I will need two of each item.
Any other CB advice is welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Paul.

What sort of distances are you trying to cover?
CB's are 4 watts. To achieve 200 watts you need an rf amp. Unless your aerial is very well trimmed you are likely to blow the crap out of either the CB or the amp so you should try and stay away from using an amp IMO.
Drop me a PM if you want a copy of my CB price list.

A copy of your price list would be great.
E-Mail me at: mantamac@aol.com
The support truck can be miles away from the comp truck, so I would need a very good CB???
I'm half way to just buying some proper two way radios as I cannot chance us not being able to contact each other.
Any advice on the subject would be appreciated.
Paul.

Hi Paul I'll e-mail price list when I get back to work on Monday. If you do decide to go for proper PBR radios I hire these which would get round the licensing requirement for you. I'll e-mail prices for this too.

I would check what is called CEPT licensing. Those power levels are not type approved. In this country you would probably only get a slap on the wrist and the equipment seized. In that country it may be far worse.
