Refurbing the calipers to the same as standard is not really worth it, but if you replace the pistons with stainless steel ones as well as replace the piston seals then they are better than factory.
Stainless pistons don't rust and so siezed pistons and torn and leaking seals are a thing of the past. Add in a set of braided flexible hoses and you will end up with some excellent brakes.

if the crome plating on the caliper pistons is starting to flake off, the brake pistons are f*£ked replacement of the pistons, before they start sticking, is the only answer.
if you need to replace them, do it as said before, with stainless steel ones.
however replacing the seals for them, in the caliper, is not an easy job. the retaining rings can be a real pig. dont get cheepo pattern ones if you decide to do it.
new calipers are about £60-£80 quid each, much easier in the long run, but thats just me!
